thunder, lightning, pc's and routers

after the stories of lightning shooting up your broadband phone line nd into the pc, does anyone know if the rules are different when the line goes into a modem router, then netted into the pc?

thanx

If you get a direct lightning strike to a phone line near your house then I think there is a good chance that it will kill everything on it.

Mythbusters did an experiment a while back to look at the effects of a lightning strike to a phone system and electrical systems with a house and the results were incredible, buster was very much electrocuted.

However the liklihood of a strike is small and once away from your property the systems are usually well protected against lightning strikes, which will prevent or significantly reduce the possibility of lightning causing damage down the line.

This happened to us recently. Lightning hit our house and fried the network cards on all four comps we had hooked to the router. Computers still worked, just needed new NIC's.

had a very nearby bolt, i heard something 'click'

disconnected stuff.

now when i plug my router in, the LAN and WAN lights are on, all the 100MBS led's are on, and the power light isn't
