I'm on a novell network. I have been able to use a thumb drive forever, but now they have used the "Z" drive. The thumbdrive won't mount anymore.

When I say they've used the "Z" drive, they have various drives mounted to the network. It automatically mounts them when I log on.

Any ideas?

Assuming that

1) you have admin powers on your computer

2) it's a Win2000 Pro or WinXP Pro system

3) you have at least one NTFS local drive

then you should be able to do this:

1) plug in your thumb drive

2) open the Computer Management window (right-click My Computer > Manage) and go down to the Disk Management area, where your thumb drive should be listed.

3) right-click the white bar that represents the thumb drive's capacity and choose Change Drive Letter and Path...

4) instead of assigning it a drive letter, mount it within your NTFS file system somewhere, like shown in this picture where I'm mounting mine in a folder I made, called C:\Thumbdrive.

Tada! :) Any number of drives you want.

Exactly what I was going to post. I had the same problem at work (inordinate amount of Novell drives mounted) and ran out of drive letters. All is well, now that I used the B: drive :)

The only thing that sucks about this is that portable thunderbird won't run that way :p
