Thugs on the 4th of July

Mill

Lifer
As many of you know, I used to work at a theme park. Well, they have a pretty great fireworks display, so I secured 5 tickets tonight and went with some members of my family.

About 5 minutes before the fireworks, some idiot decides it would be funny to fire a gun in the air. There will be 10 million comments saying "duh firecracker/m-60/whatever," but it wasn't. I go shooting regularly. There is a difference in how things sound. My Uncle agreed with me as well (he's a big time gun owner). Anyway, it creates a stampede in a bottleneck section of the park. My cousin and his wife get pushed into the bushes with their 14 month old. People are hiding behind trashcans and strollers and some are calling 911. People are getting knocked down, and I was really afraid it was gonna get out of control.

I started yelling for everyone to stop running and calm down and pushed people back, then went and grabbed a couple of security guys and tried to help find the moron with the gun. Thank God that some other people had the same idea as me, and we managed to make the people stop stampeding. It was similar to something you see on Real TV in which a crowd starts going nuts in a tight area. Thankfully most people were just scared, and so we all decided to leave. There were fights breaking out in the crowds and security was detaining a ton of folks. FINALLY, the local PD showed up and started busting heads, but my family had already left, and I was just hanging out by the main gate watching it all unfold. There was probably at least several hundred thugs that came down from the Projects to watch the fireworks, and that was the cause of the problem(remember, I worked there, and there is a massive housing project right near the park). Everything finally got dispersed and calmed down, but some redneck lady decided to be racist and it almost started up again.

Meh. Next 4th of July I will just go in the city, find a quite spot, and watch their fireworks.

Combining alcohol and fireworks isn't that good a starting place. Like New Year's Eve, a good night to stay home.

I'm surprised guns aren't banned from the theme park.

They certainly are. But that doesn't mean there aren't ways to sneak them in. This wasn't an aiport you know... and even then people *cough* newscrews smuggle stuff past the TSA all the time.
