throwing away an old laser printer

As the title and summary say, I wanna throw away an old laser printer that I salvaged from our school's surplus store so I won't have the lug the beast home. Can I just toss it in the dumpster, or is there a proper way to dispose of old electronics?

Does it work? If so, Ebay it or sell it in FS/T for local pickup only. I'm sure there's someone near you on here that would take it off your hands.

You can sell broken stuff too on ebay, of course don't expect to get much for it, but if you get rid of it & get $20 or even $10, that's a plus imo.

no, it doesn't work. It was fine for about a week or two, then it just started eating paper and emitting a weird burning smell. I just use it as a footrest now 😉

What kind of printer is it?

As far as disposal, there's nothing particularly harmful in them. No more so than any other antiquated PC hardware.

The burning smell is very common in older lasers, & does not necessarily indicate a problem.

Don't throw it away, those things will run forever.

Most likely a fuser is all it needs (if anything).

If you insist on killing it, do me a favor & strip the jetdirect (if it has one) & all DIMMS out & send them to me - I can use them.
