THROW BACK: Need help replacing subwoofers on my Klipsch v.2-400

Hey all,

My subwoofers in my Klipsch v.2-400 system have blown themselves. I'm not interested in replacing the foam surrounding the woofers, or springing for a set of BX5 D2's or A5+ (need to save up!) and would rather get some cheap $20 woofers from partsexpress.com that have the same frequency and ohm levels.

Which leads me to my problem. I'm not an electrical engineer so I don't know:

1. Are the two sub wired in serial or parallel?
2. What ohm levels are each of the subwoofers?
3. What RMS wattage for each subwoofer?

Based on the frequency response, I'm looking at either of these two woofers by Goldwood.

8 ohm version:

4 ohm version:

Anyone have any recommendations/advice?

Unless you can get a replacement driver with the same thiele-small parameters as the originals you're going to end up with a bastardized system. it may or may not sound good, a crap shoot really.

Open the unit to find out how the speakers are wired and use a ohm meter to find out the impedance. Disconnect one side of each speakers before measuring to get accurate results. If you can find a part number try ordering a new driver.

What's wrong with the drivers anyway? If they are both fried, the ohm meter measurement will mean noting.

I also have the Klipsch v.2-400. One day, the foams around the woofers started to rip.

I replaced them with 8 ohms 6.5" woofers I got from parts-express.

Total was $33 shipped for 2 woofers.

These speakers were a little smaller than the original and didnt have the plastic portion that held the grill in. I had to hotglue the grill for it to stay put.
