Throughput rating for DVD+R and DVD+RW media?

Hi all:

Is DVD+R and/or DVD+RW media "speed" rated in the same way that CD-R and CD-RW media are rated?

I just purchased an HP DVD300i (DVD+R @ 4X) and I wonder if I have to buy media rated at 4X throughput to use it in this device.

It sounds like the media IS rated.

So the next question is: does the drive automatically adjust its burning rate to match the media?

In other words, if I burn 2X media in my 4X drive will I obtain 4X burning throughput or will the drive automatically scale back and burn at 2X?

Well I needed a firmware update for my hp dvd200i in order to be able to use 4x media at 2.4x speed.

If it isn't specified then the media is typically 2.4x. The new 4x is a lot more expensive and hard to find.

You can use 4x, 2x or 1x media if you have a 4x drive.
There is no 2x nor 1x +R/RW media AFAIK. +R/RW started at 2.4x. I think u are confusing it with -R/RW.
