Through-Door webcam/security cam?

I live in an apartment and some funny people keep stealing people everyone's doormats. I bought a cheapy $20 webcam (2110a) but found that a) It is useless through the peephole because of the peephole lens and b) with the peephole removed and the webcam pressed up to the door hole, the field of view isn't wide enough.

Has anyone found a camera witha wide enough FOV to be used in a door (gee I guess that's why the peephole uses a fisheye lens)

I'm looking for cheap solutions here and am looking to use a laptop near the door. A camera with composite-out would be OK too I guess..

You're going through a lot of trouble just to save a stupid door mat. Is all of this really necessary? Just put a very potent solution like itching powder, poison ivy resin, whatever you want on the mat itself. It'll make him think twice when he can't pull on his own pud for a week or two.

Just a suggestion since no one else seems to care about your silly doormat.

Ahh, the doormat part is silly but not the part I forgot to mention was the burglaries next door 😱
