Thrmaltake Volcano 7

Just got this HSF for my system. I must say I'm really impressed. First off it keeps my temps for a 1575mhz XP right around 34 degrees C. Second, it's QUIET!! I got this because I just couldn't take the noise of my Swiftec with Delta fan which only kept my temps 2 degrees cooler. Best investment I ever made. I have my sanity back now!!

I reviewed that cooler and let me say it is by far the coolest looking heatsink/fan combo ever! Awesome looks and one fantastik idea with the temp-controlled fan.

But it's huge and it didn't perform as well as I had thought it would and as the size would suggest. . It cools fine but I've had several smaller ones that cool as well and better. I can't stand the loud lawnmower delta fans either so I put in a fan off a volcano II. Has 36 cfm and is quiet. The v7 will get noisy as the heat builds and the fan goes faster but still not as loud as those lawnmower fans. Just wish that temp sensor was nearer the cpu and not at the top-side of the fan. Still better than nothing anyway and it's a very innovative idea.

This is what makes it great I think. Word processing, listening to MP3's, you want it quiet and the cpu's not doing much, so the lower the RPM's (and less noise). Going at it in Unreal Tournement at a LAN party (or even online) it's going to cool better and be louder, cause it's using more resources BUT WHO CARES, there is so much noise (yelling/screaming/cussing, and cranked speakers of course) anyways. I've been waiting for something like this to come out since I got my T-Bird 13 months ago, and tomarrow I'm ordering a Tt V7. I mean, unless your into MPEG-4 encoding or compiling a kernel (most people would set this and leave the room anyways) in the backround while trying to do something quiet, this is something I think a lot of people would like. My $0.02
