Is this normal behavior that you guys are seeing with modern internet browsers? It just seems crazy to me that an internet browser is consuming so much ram with only a few tabs open. The only extensions installed are ABP, AB, and Ghostery. Is this normal ram usage for modern browsers? If it is does anyone have a suggestion for a leaner browser with a smaller footprint and the ability to install the extensions I use?

I'm using about 900mb in Firefox52.9 in debian.

ABP was known for poor performance and high ram use. Dunno what it's like these days, but I prefer ublock origin. Dunno what AB is. *I don't trust ghostery. It's run by an ad company. Consider something like privacybadger instead.

edit:
*Looks like some stuff has changed with ghostery. New ownership. I don't have an opinion on them at this time. I'd have to do some reading.

edit2:
Looks like they're still an ad company. This is a page from the parent company...

Click Chrome menu, More Tools, Task Manager, (or press Shift+Esc) then you will see which process (tab or extension) is using the most memory.

My AdBlock Plus extension is using the most memory, 500MB+

Yes, modern browsers are memory hogs.

Chrome is a notorious memory hog. Uses more than any other browser. But you get better speed out of it.
