I am torn between the AMD and Intel bases -- I am nervous about the P965s being picky with memory -- I have heard the P965 has an excellent raid controller built in -- I do not know if the thermals of the AMD would yield a hot CPU vs the E6600 -- The AMD option gives me the room to buy a nice enthusiast board.

Comments welcome -- I am looking to purchase in the next 48 hours.

Thanks.

Corrected the links now

I would get an amd system... links don't work for me, but amd just had a huge price drop so it would be a lot cheaper to get a decent amd system and a great vid card.

just thought about the future a little... the 965 board will work for Intel's new quad cores, but the AM2 is finished this summer right?

I was under the impression that the raid controller on the p965 was better than that on the Nvidia 650i series -- yes/no?

Fanless northbridges scare me (I have nothing to back up that statement its just a personal preference)
Other than that I would choose the second build but wait until the price drop in Q2 as the 6600 will be $224

Probably because many NB chipsets tend to run hot, especially when overclocked. Many people opt to replace stock NB cooling with an aftermarket solution.

That said, I don't overclock heavily and I've always left my NB stock without any problems.

supposedly the next batch of amds cpus will work, but you never know. i think it something like you can use the am3 in a am2 board, but not a am2 cpu in a am3 board??? something weird like that.

op - have you ordered yet?

fanless northbride = a fan you don't have to worry about. just make sure the hs on their is adequate. i am in the process of taking some fans off so i don't have to hear them squeak and will be going the zalman setup, hopefully all will work fine 😉

No I have not ordered yet -- was waiting to get more feedback and then going to shore up the order.

Just went to New Egg and two of the items are Out Of Stock now so I will have to do some tweaking if I want it before next Monday.
