This is just wrong in so many ways.....
I wonder how many Police officers are actually loose canons waiting to go off.....

If as some would claim these are all isolated incidents compared to the mass number of officers....then at what point do these so called "isolated" incidents start to reveal a problem that cannot and should not be swept under the rug or explained away?

A policeman was killed by a security officer after shooting and killing two women in front of a police station in Ankara’s Çankaya district on July 1.

The first victim reportedly filed a complaint against the suspect, a police officer, for harassing her. She returned to her work place but then headed to the police station after the suspect continued to intimidate her.

The police officer continued to follow the victim’s car while she was driving to the Beysukent Police Station with her child and sister. On the street where the police station is located, the policeman blocked the road, got out of his car and then fired his gun at the car, in which both sisters were sitting.

Both victims were shot in the attack, while the suspect was shot by a police officer who intervened after hearing the first gun shots.

One of the women died at the scene while her sister and the police officer both lost their lives after being taken to hospital.

A post-mortem examination has been completed on the first of the women to die.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident. Some 15 empty shell cases were found at the scene, eight of which were found to have struck the car of the two women.

Security camera footage showing the police officer pursuing the same car has also been revealed.

Were they driving a blue pickup? And was there an APB out on a silver SUV?
Cuz that a recipe for disaster right there.

Good thing this didn't happen in Albuquerque, or it would have turned out far worse.

:):eek:There would appear to be a rising number of incidents in which members do not seem to have actually read the articles they are posting. If, as some would claim, these are all isolated incidents compared to the mass number of posters....then at what point do these so called "isolated" incidents start to reveal a problem that cannot and should not be swept under the rug or explained away?:)

Crazy people can be found in any occupation. This time it happened to be a Turkish policeman.

Subcategory of P&N called Police Misconduct Stories... :whiste:

I doubt the admins are comfortable with the notoriety such a move represents. Do we need to have a "RSS feed" repository for each and every news article on the subject? What function does that serve, and is it compatible with the goals of the forum?

Perhaps what is pertinent to flooding P&N, is that addressing and correcting police misconduct IS a singular topic. We should be discussing corrective policy, having constructive posts on the subject. The issue is no one really makes an actual discussion out of it.

Constructive P&N:

1: Determine what is wrong.
2: Cite examples.
3: Suggest corrective policy.
4: Argue over the details of policy changes.
5: Approach politicians with the new policy, get them on the record.
6: Point out and shame politicians who do not support new policy.

The whole subject boils down to a fundamental campaign of making this country safer. For both us and the police. It is a great disservice if we simply bullet list every reason to hate police officers. It only feels like we need another category because of our failure to do right by this category.

Discussion is good!! I for one have real issues with the evolution of the Police State in America!

Use to be even in grade school, we were taught by our parents and teachers that the Police were there to protect us and were our friends!

What changed?

Keeping these issues of Police Misconduct fresh and alive is important.......because I personally believe that some here would say live with it.....

Yet we have these school shooting almost once a week and have become numb to the shootings.....

We should never become numb to our rights being taken away by anybody......

Finally -- you did know that in almost every state it is ok for the Police to lie to you as an American?? Yet if you lie to the Police you are obstructing justice....hmmmmm

Peace-- Have a nice weekend!!

So, was the crazed police officer shot by a security guard or another police officer? The story in the OP contradicts itself unless the one person was somehow both a security guard AND a police officer (admittedly more common for armed security).

That may be the mother of all anecdotal misconceptions.

I don't think minorities have ever felt that way re: authorities. Perhaps our heavy handed policy against crime, drugs, and terror have simply expanded on misconduct already present.

It'd be nice to get a poll, how people felt about police growing up. Based on their age, different periods in their lives, income and race. Betting your tale of "they were our friends" does not hold up.

Between speeding tickets and car tags... I can't say my childhood view was a positive one. Prob neutral though given the circumstances. After the Patriot Act and their increasing militarization and lethal home invasion tactics... gone rapidly downhill from there.

Your OP is misguided though. One it's not even our country. Two it was clearly a crazy / rogue guy and not official policy. Three, he was stopped by one of his own. It's a really terrible basis for a discussion on American Militarization and Abuse.
