Three 'Jeopardy' Contestants End Up Tied
By Associated Press

NEW YORK - All those years of answers and questions, and it's never happened before on "Jeopardy!" What is a three-way tie, Alex? The three contestants on the venerable game show all finished with $16,000 after each answering the final question correctly in the category, "Women of the 1930s," on Friday's show. They identified Bonnie Parker, of the famed Bonnie and Clyde crime duo, as a woman who, as a waitress, once served one of the men who shot her.

"We've had a lot of crazy things happen on `Jeopardy!' but in 23 years I've never seen anything like this before," host Alex Trebek said.

The show contacted a mathematician who calculated the odds of such a three-way tie happening _ one in 25 million.

The three contestants, Jamey Kirby of Gainesville, Fla.; Anders Martinson of Union City, Calif.; and Scott Weiss of Walkersville, Md; were all declared champions and taped a rematch that will air Monday.

I wonder what the scores were before final jeopardy... unless they were all tied going in to final jeopardy, then someone is an idiot. ;)

i was watching it it was pretty cool. two people had 8K and bet it all. the lead guy only needed 2601 to win but he bet 2600 or something like that.

because of this they all play again on monday.

OK, I just checked the TiVo - the previous champion had 13,400 going in, and the other two guys had 8000 apiece. Seemed like he did it on purpose.

Either that or he's a 1337 h4x0r and he just wanted to bet 2600 :p

So their odds of 1 in 25 million is kind of flawed in that it leaves out the element of human influence.

it looked like he did it on purpose. he seemed like an alright guy, had some fvcked up hands though. he had come back from a large deficit during normal jeopardy.

Anyone provide a link to a video of this? I can't seem to find it on Youtube

I wish I had recorded it on my HTPC instead of my TiVo, because then I could post it. The guy who won reminded me of one of the lead characters from Revenge of the Nerds. And/or the nerdy guy from Head of the Class.

Two were tied at $8,000, the other (the 2 day champ) had around 14k (he's a huge game show nerd and did it on purpose I'm sure :p )

My TitanTV says A Jeopardy will be re-aired at 3:37 AM Central time this morning. It is usually that previous day's Jeopardy but not always. The guide on Media Center doesn't show Jeopardy on at that time though. I'm setting it to record anyway just in case because I want to see it.

Thanks for the link. I miss Ken Jennings, I used to watch it more often back then.

really it's kinda smart what he did, maybe he didn't like that category so he bets $2400. Now even if both
the other contestants bet the max of $8,000 and win (which happend ) the worst he could do was a tie. My
question is, did they all get paid the 16,000 for that show or do all start monday w/a clean slate??

If he had answered incorrectly, and the others had answered correctly, he would have lost.

He did it for fun.

From the YouTube clip it looks like Alex Trebeck expected that to happen, since he delt with it rather quickly.

Your right, only possible explanation...Never should thought about this without a calculator handy.

He was smart. Not only does the leader still "win", but he'll come back to play against the same weak opponents and probably win again.
