1. If I manually burn & transcode an HD content to a regular DVD disc and play it on a regular DVD player with HDTV, it can be played successfully right? I don't see why not unless the DVD player cannot process the info fast enough...

2. Why don't broadcasts differentiate between 720p and 1080p HD? Both may be HD but 720p barely meets the qualification and 1080p is certainly better. No?

3. When we watch HD content, is it normally 720p or 1080p?

1) No. DVD players are standardized to a particular resolution, codec and bitrates. Also, they wouldn't be powerful enough to process HD content. You may, however, downscale HD content to regular DVD compliant formats.
2) 1080p is better but I don't know of any channels/services broadcasting higher than 720p/1080i. My Vizio HDTV has a QAM tuner and does differentiate between 720p and 1080i content, but I'm not sure if my TV determines that or if it's info stored in the broadcast. If you're using a cable box then your TV is just acting as a monitor anyway and all your HD content is being sent at whatever setting you chose on the box.
3) 720p or 1080i, but not 1080p.

Let me clarify:

1. I downloaded a HD content. It's actually a Starcraft 2 video in 720p format.
2. Using Nero, I burn this to play on set-topnon-HD DVD players
3. Now I play the DVD on the obviously non-HD DVD player that is hooked up to the HDTV (I have Aquos 43").
4. Will above setup play the SC2 video in its full HD 720p glory?

1. How are you going to get HD content onto a regular dvd and play it in a regular dvd player? It doesn't work like that...
2. No broadcasts are in 1080P. It is either 720P or 1080i, and there are pluses and minuses for both. 1080P content will be seen from a computer, HD DVD player, gaming console or blu ray player
3. Depends on what you mean by HD content..there are many different sources. if you mean TV, then it depends. Channels like ABC, ESPN and FOX do 720P. CBS, NBC, Discovery and HBO are 1080i. THere is no 1080p broadcasting.

Hope that helps.

Really, the only difference (aside from model specific features) is the resolution...both are considered HD. If you sit close to the TV, 1080 makes a big difference. If you're going to watch a lot of HD DVD and Blu Ray, you will get more benefit from a 1080P.

Look at it this way: The difference between 480i (sd tv) and 720P is 100 times greater than the difference between 720P and 1080P.

To answer this specific question, the answer is no.

Youre dvd player will output either 480i or 480p depending on the dvd player...even if it is an upconverting one it will upconvert only those resolutions.

Furthermore, when you are using NERO to burn the disc it is converting the video to MPEG2 in the proper resolution for DVD.

Does that make sense?

Why don't they broadcast it at 1080p? What's the difference on 1080p vs 1080i on my 43" LCD?

When the HD standard was created there was no 1080P, it was just 720P or 1080I

the P stands for progressive. It means that every frame (60 "frames" per second in the US) is refreshed

The i is for interlaced. It refreshes every OTHER frame.

720P benefits from fast motion

1080P is obviously the best of both worlds, but the bandwith for broadcast is just too much and they had already invested so much in the other formats.

Your tv will up convert the 480i/480p. No you won't get the 720p glory

Right, i answered this in another post...the answer is no.

EDIT-

One caveat...remember that your TV will then UPscale it to display at whatever its resolution is.

For instance, you have a WMV-HD file of SC2 at 720P

Nero downresses it to 480i in mpeg2 and creates a VOB file for your dvd player to read.

Your dvd player (if its progressive scan, which they all are now) with deinterlace the video and send a 480p signal to the TV

Your TV will upscale it to 720P (or 1080P) to display it to you.

Does that make sense?

Yes... bummer. But that follows another Q:

Let's say the HD DVD content on my PC is exactly 4.3 GB, or whatever the maximum storage of a standards DVD is. If I use NERO to burn it, it's gonna downscale it to standard TV resolution... then will that still take up 4.3 GB?

I ask this because that SC2 video took up one gig, shouldn't it be less after the actual burn?
