Three different configurations and I need some advice...

The first configuration seems to be the sweet spot, but the second is the most "future" proof as I will eventually quad-SLI it, and the third configuration is the "budget" build. Please let me know as I will be ordering one of these soon. Thanks!


The first configuration for $2300:

Case: Antec 900
Mobo: EVGA 790i Ultra
CPU: E8400 Wolfdale
RAM: 2x2GB GSKILL DDR3-1600 (7-7-7-18)
PSU: PP&C Silencer 750w
HDD: WD Raptor 150GB
GPU: 2x8800 GTS 512MB in SLI

The second configuration replaces the video cards and PSU for $2700:

Case: Antec 900
Mobo: EVGA 790i Ultra
CPU: E8400 Wolfdale
RAM: 2x2GB GSKILL DDR3-1600 (7-7-7-18)
PSU: PP&C Silencer 1000w-SR
HDD: WD Raptor 150GB
GPU: 9800gx2 Video Card

The third configuration reverts back to a 780i build with 2x 8800 GTS 512's for $2000:

Case: Antec 900
Mobo: EVGA 780i
CPU: E8400 Wolfdale
RAM: 2x(2x2) GB Corsair DDR2 PC-6400
PSU: PP&C Silencer 750w
HDD: WD Raptor 150GB
GPU: 2x8800 GTS 512MB in SLI
 
Silly configurations. Drop the DDR3, they offer NO extra performance over DDR2. If you go with ddr2 in the second config, you should be fine. There's quieter 1000w supplies then the PP&C though, I'd look around for a different PSU. All configs looks pretty good btw, except for the fact that 2 of them have ddr3 in them which is a complete waste of money.
 
Unless you are just trying for benchmarks you can really spend about 1500.00 and get 99% of the performance you'll see with those systems.

Unless you are spending over 1 grand on a cpu then you are very, very unlikely to utilize that ddr3 memory.

However if you are not concerned at all about price then yes you can go with two.
It will make a very nice gaming rig for a long time. I'd guess in 2 years a lot of people with be building out similar ones for 1 grand.
