Excuse me if I am wrong but isn't a refugee one who is displaced by war? Skoorb please don't let your country send them back to us, we will obviously kill them for trying to leave our regime.

War on drugs!

These guys may be a little loony but maybe it will bring some good attention to our government's ludicrous stance against medical marijuana.

Uh, no, a refugee is someone who is seeking refuge in a different country, often because they face persecution in their homeland.

Ms. Boje likened the crackdown on marijuana users to other events in U.S. history that prompted waves of immigration to Canada, such as the Vietnam War and the slave trade

How the hell can that jerk compare VN war dissenters and fugitives from the slave trade to smoking, selling and cultivating pot?

I'm no expert, but I imagine it costs less. After all, it is a natural plant. Nature takes care of the manufacturing.

yeah, i'm guessing it would be quite a bit cheaper. and better for farmers. esp if they legalize regular hemp along with it. better for the enviro too. damn pharmaceutical/cigarette companies!

EDIT: and logging companies too!

This is because of the marijuana laws in the US

Dumbasses. They should have asked for refugee status in Jamaica. Marijuana is more prevalent and available there, AND it's warmer than Canada.

These high profile cases are just for spite. The US Government won't swallow it's pride, let alone start down a slippery slope that threatens the business interests they are in bed with.

Mr. Kubby, who is a host of Pot TV, a Web site with breaking news about marijuana issues, once ran for governor of California as a Libertarian candidate.

Why am I not surprised.

Ms. Boje likened the crackdown on marijuana users to other events in U.S. history that prompted waves of immigration to Canada, such as the Vietnam War and the slave trade.

"Canada has a history of protecting people in the United States from their own government," Ms. Boje said.

I guess cowards and drug users should have somewhere to go.

If they move next door to Nevada, they will be voting at this next election to make MJ legal. About frickin time, too. Prostitution and gambling is legal there, why not MJ? I believe it will pass, however, its still against federal law. That is the troublewith our constitution. Fed law superceeds state law. When it comes to matters like this, enforcement is more in the hands of the existing regime in power in the White House. That bone head thats running things now, who gets embarassed at seeing a statue of a bare breasted goddess, is not going to allow MJ being freely used in Nevada, if he has anything to do with it.

And he does. He is the Attoerney General, appointed at the will of the standing President. He lost to a ghost for his seat inthe senate, so bush gave him a cushy job.

There have been reports that hundreds of Americans have crossed the border into Canada in recent months after U.S. Attorney-General John Ashcroft ordered clampdowns on medicinal marijuana clubs in states where voters have passed measures approving them.

Only that Jamaica is nowhere near Canada when it comes to standarts of living. Netherlands would have been a much better choice IMO.
