Thread Subscription Floods?

I just got this PM today.

ShotgunSteve,

Your thread subscriptions are being returned to us with the error message:

Delivery failed 20 attempts: shotgunsteven@g*******.com

These return notices flood our mailbox. Therefore, I have canceled your subscriptions. Please do not subscribe to anymore threads until this problem is corrected.

Thank you,

AnandTech Moderator

The thing is, I have not subscribed to any threads, nor have I in the entire time I have been here except by accident. I am checking on the status of the e-mail account I have listed as I speak, but I have no clue why I would be subscribed to any threads.

EDIT: Just tried sending a test e-mail to my account, it did not go through, but I did not get a failed delivery notice either. Weird.

---

We send the same message to all members when this happens. We cannot email them so we alert them by PM. The returns are from your ISP's automated reply system. The number of returns we get depends on how many replies are posted to the thread you subscribed to. If it is a popular thread with more than one member with a bad address, we can get hundreds of such replies.

Maybe you have auto subscription to a thread on? You can subscribe to a thread by simply replying to it.

How do you turn auto subscription on? I've never seen an option like that.

Never heard of that.
You might try changing to PM notification and see if that makes any difference.

Thing is, I have never received e-mail updates to threads before, now the one time the server is down that I get my e-mail through, they start getting bounced messages?

Any chance that one of the threads you posted in got moved to a different forum? That will trigger an email from the moderator. Perhaps Fusetalk just groups all such emails as "subscription" notifications.
