thread locked, no reason given, frustrating, rude

I posted a thread yesterday in "Hot Deals" seeking confirmation if a quote on a custom system is reasonable. I simply needed some help from folks who are involved with PC purchasing/building much more than I (I engineer large midrange systems). There were a some responses -- some which I needed to reply to but then the thread was locked. No reason was given.

I participated in the AnandTech forums over a year ago but forgot my userid/password so I came back and got a new ID "syseng". If this is the way the forums work now, it may be a year before I come back again. Locking a thread is equivalent to shouting "Shut up now!!". It should be exercised with great consideration.

Though this rule is posted in "For Sale/Trade", it still applies to all of the forums: "No Price checks."

However, I think that deleting a thread is saying "shut up now" while locking a thread is "this is against the rules, and the kind of stuff we would prefer not to see"

They locked the tread because it wasn't really posted in the right place. The Hot Deals forum if for posting hot deals not to ask if you found one.

Check the rules.... no price checks allowed in HD. They werent being rude or trying to shut you up, simply following their own set forth rules that serve to keep the forums organized.

The "help" button does not indicate that "price checks" are forbidden.

The descripotion listed under the forums on the main forum page did not give enough detail to determine exactly where the thread belonged. I took a guess and was shot down -- still rude.
If the moderators treat people like that in person, they are probably very lonely.

If you posted a price check in the Hot Deal forum then the mods did you a favor by locking, you were in for a mighty tongue lashing I fear.
