Thread Crapping in OT

I see more and more thread crappers making stupid and rude remarks in serious threads in the Off Topic Forum.

Today I noticed with disgust that a post someone made in WombatWoman's Father's Day thread contained a link to a vulgar anti-Bush joke from somethingawful.com (how could ANYONE think it was appropriate to post that in a thread in which WW discussed her dead father and shared a lovely poem that she wrote for him.)

There have been threads in which people who were obviously hurting emotionally asked for advice, and got made fun of in cruel ways. One member here has made a habit of mocking troubled teenagers who say they are considering suicide.

Do we have to be funny at other people's expense? I swear, some of you remind me of the kind of person who sits in the back row at a funeral and makes farting sounds with his armpit.

Am I the only person disturbed by this trend?

Ginger,

If you weren't already aware, the majority of people on this planet are assholes.

It only serves that the majority of posters will be as well.

Yep, I know, many of you may have that opinion of me, but hey, this is life.

Great, another School Marm riding into town with intentions of closing down all the Brothels. FYI, before the influx of Nefs, Pimple Farmers and AOL Chatroom Kiddies, this place was raw, rude and fun. In fact this forum was created to rid the General Forum of all the heated flames. Only when the sensitives types pranced on over here did people start to whine about rude comments made at the expense of idiots who tell their deepest secrets to 90,000 of their closet friends on the internet.

Red Dawn,

I know what OT was like in the rough and tumble old days. Check my join date.

But people back then seemed to give a damn about each other.

was this thread supposed to be a useless rant or are you looking to change ATOT?

Because most weren't just here to nef or weren't wnhining about petty little sh!t in their personal life. We had Transvestites, RTed Necked Okies who made the Klan look like the ACLU, Trolls who would try to stand toe to toe with you instead of Spoofing someones IP and posting with stolen ID's, Religious threads that made Satan blush, Political Debates that actually changed minds and when the whole forum came under attack from another Forum like Ars Technica, the ATOTers stood together and took their licking at the hands of the Pompous Pricks from the land of Caesar without uttering an audible whimper.

Now we have wankers who post pics of Bimbo's they bang in the garage of a hotels, guys who weep because their boss doesn't buy them a nice gift at the end of the year, Funny Freaks who care only about upping their post count, Religious Nazi's who get all red in the face because others refuse to believe the unbelivable (and go running to the Moderators like Mad Rats). Hmm it seems like we have a lot more material to work with these days:)

Those were the days, boy. Tards like me didn't even dare to post a comment. Just about every thread was worth reading, quality stuff, no aol chat room crap.

I just clicked the link from WW's post to the bush card...that was hilarious. I can't believe you're getting worked up over a little joke.

Red Dawn has accurately described the olden days of OT. In earlier times, there were lots of rude words and many flamewars, but mostly there were feelings behind the flames, not just a desire to be a smart ass and attract attention to one's own smarmy adolescent self.

The thread was about a woman mourning her dead father. If you think that's a good place for "a little joke," you are probably one of the funeral armpit-farters I referred to earlier.

I see what you mean Ginger. Back in the day this forum used to be a lot more fun. I, too remember when I would read every thread on the first page of OT because they all had substance to them. Now I skip most of 'em. The median age of this place has dropped considerably since then. And young, immature people are going to say immature things.

That along with the subscription stuff has kept me away to a large degree. Probably a good thing because it's freed up a lot of time for my real life!

The day "Nef" joined these forums marked a huge turning point. We won't ever be able to get back to where this board used to be years ago... but it's fun to reminisce about it.

Nice one Ginger...Swarmy are us!!:) Ranting with creativity is an art form in itself. Sometimes one can get caught up in the heat of battle and lose his composure, but for those who can keep an even keel there can be a lot of enjoyment pointing out the ridiculous with gusto usually reserved for political debates with John Birchers and the Religious Right.

Hmm...I never could quite get that technique down.

Anyone care to help me?
