Thoughts on WP8 for corporate use?

Absolutely a perfect fit for us. 120+ phones within our company and we'll be switch to WP across the board. Blackberry is no longer reliable, IPhones are toys, Androids make no sense to most of our staff. Office is an absolute necessity. Excel is our only common language.

The one downside I see on many reviews is the On Screen Keyboard doesn't work as well as Android and iOS options. As of yet there is no way to install a different keyboard app.

What? I'd consider Windows Phone to have one of the best stock keyboards around, far superior to any skinned Android phone because the keyboard isn't overloaded with options that can confuse users. And because most Windows Phones are larger than any iPhone, you have more horizontal space, making for a larger keyboard.

It's top notch.

Try typing on Windows phone 8 and see. Every review I've seen so far mentions it being pretty bad. One review called it borderline unusable on the HTC 8X.

Unless they messed it up in WP8, the WP7 keyboard was very highly regarded. I find it pretty awesome to be honest.

Uhhh, link?

EVery review I've read so far has said it's the exact same keyboard as WP7, which I agree with others here that it's REALLY good.

Typing messages is a bit of a pain though. The keyboard looks cramped and basic – and it takes time for you to trust it. Once you do, you'll hate it. Or at least we did.
Typing with two hands just created lots of mistakes and auto correct didn't always kick in. It's horses for courses and we're sure the pincer fingered among you won't mind. But we weren't fans.
And unlike Android, you can't change the keyboard for a third party. You're stuck with it. So we'd definitely recommend trying it out in a shop first.

Ok, well

A) That is the exact same keyboard as WP7, so I have no idea what they're talking about.

B) They're bitching about Google's voice dictation compared to Siri on that same page? I've played extensively with both and Google's is better by far.

C) Skype isn't available in the WP marketplace? Incorrect. As every single other review has talked about how well it works in WP8.

So, I'm just going to assume that they're either apple fanboys or are terrible at reviewing products in general.

Or you're bias toward WP8 which can be true as well anyway. Doesn't matter.

Also did you notice they are in the UK...are you in the UK to verify the app store is the exact same? They were also comparing Google's voice dictation to the one available in WP8 and they prefer Google but prefer Siri over that.

Despite what you think it is actually OK to like something else.

Funny thing about the voice dictation is that I use it for search, dialing, etc and it never fails. And the Android and iOS users around me just sit there dumbfounded that a phone can do that...granted these aren't the most techy people, but it certainly works fine on my old Trophy.

edit: it just cracks me up as I have this crappy 2009/2010 at best hardware level phone, on Verizon's not so speedy 3G network, and every time I've ever used it in a real world "vs" sort of comparison, the iOS and Android (users?) got smoked by a Windows Phone :)

I don't really see it as any different than an iPhone. No one in the corporate world is going to do serious productivity on their phones. If they try, they'll facepalm soon enough and switch to a laptop.

Here our company employees are allowed to use just about any modern smartphone. We thankfully don't get restricted to specific OSes.

Keyboard issue with WP8? WP7.5 had a pretty decent keyboard.....

So it's possible WP8 might not have the best keyboard, but to say it's "terrible" or "bad" must be a form of exaggeration.

As far as work phone, I say WP8 is a decent choice, along with iOS. Android would be my last choice because of reliability issues. I wouldn't want my employees installing custom roms and side load apps...etc.

What about Jailbroken iPhones?

How much use are you going to get out of office on a 4 inch or so phone?

Can I keep asking this?

My wife does a lot of work involving excel, word docs and .pdfs and uses an android phone. Would it be particularly easy for her to translate a 40k word doc on a win phone?

864 lines here.

Not one person has asked about anything WRT Windows Phone 8.

And just for fun, we're currently switching everything over to a pretty even iOS/Android split. We're probablt about 40/40/20 iOS/Android/RIM right now.
