Instead of getting an extry level lux sedan I'm thinking about getting a V6 4x4 Toyota Highlander. Not sure if I'll get the base or the limited. Test drove it today and its pretty nice for a SUV. Anybody have one? I'd appreciate any comments.

PS: I can get it for $5K under MSRP as dealers starting price (its their advertised price), so I think I can bargain it down a bit more.

did you take a look at the murano? I sat in one the other day, nice car. And it has a CVT, I did not know that.

I really like it. Since it's based off of the Camary platform, it has the nice, lower center of gravity and car-like feel.

If it's their "advertised price", it's a "loss leader" and you'll be VERY lucky to get one at that price. PM RossMAN for more info on this.

Murano is quite expensive since its pretty new (and the base price is much higher), no rebates or incentives. I'll give it a test drive next time I'm out. Wanted to test drive the Honda Pilot too but they didn't have any in stock.

Its not really a loss leader, had 20 in stock, I went to another dealership and he said he would match the price easily. It has a $1000 dealer incentive and its not selling that well with the Murano, Pilot and other stiff competition

check carsdirect.com price, then ask for $1500-$2000 below the CarsDirect price from your dealer.

I bought two cars using this method last year

One Toyota Rav4 and one Suzuki XL-7

Seriously?! I would never have thought that about a Toyota model. In fact, I see so many Highlanders around here I thought the demand would be fairly high. My bad.

BTW, here's a recent comparison test that compares the Endeavor, Pilot, Murano, and Highlander. The Highlander came in last, but they still had OK things to say about it. The Endeavor won (although the Pilot and Murano were very close behind).

you should test drive the 4runner too, I like it better than the highlander. Roomier inside, more powerful v8 engine, believe it or not, a smoother ride too.

It's okay. We used to have one. There are much better choices out there. This car is not really that great and try driving that thing in the highway with the widnows down.. it will sound like a helicopter is above you.
I would recommend a Murano, Pathfinder, Qx4 (they are selling them for cheap if u can still find any).
I wouldn't buy a Honda SUV.
Toyota makes great SUVS .. 4runner if u can afford it is a great buy!. However the Highlander and Rav4 are not that great IMO.
