Thinking about plunking down the cash for a new monitor. Been gaming on an older Hanns.G for several years now that is limited to 1600 x 1050. Wanting to make the move to a 1440 and having been eyeing the 27" Viewsonic VP2770.

Any of you guys have any expierence with these? It will be primarily used for gaming. I currently have a 7870 Tahiti so it is debatable I'll be able to run every game on max with this card/monitor combo. I guess that means I'll have to "upgrade" or Crossfire in the future. Darn... ;)

I have this monitor and its great but I don't game on it. I use a 24" 120Hz instead so with respects to its performance as a FPS gaming monitor I am biased towards the low input lag and smooth frame rates of the 120hz panel.

Its not really geared up as a pure gaming monitor, but its adequate as long as your not a die hard Quake/CS player. For everything else its pretty solid; build quality and uniformity is very good and the image quality is superb.

There is one small niggle myself and someone else has noticed - the monitor uses touch sensitive buttons. We both purchased our units in January and once a month or so the monitor will not turn on. It requires unplugging for a minute before she works again. Its likely a bug in the firmware.

You should check out the thread on OCN:

Dkcode,

Thanks for the response. I'll take a look at that thread and post the same question. Not really a hard core gamer anymore. No time! But I still enjoy it several hours a week when the time arises so I want to make sure this is something that would be suited for my needs. Really looking forward to seeing the picture that these 4K displays have to offer.

I guess I'll start looking at 24" 120Hz monitors as well to compare/contrast performance.

It all depends on what sort of games you play, 90% of gamers would be more than happy with the Viewsonic and really, no 120Hz monitor comes even close to matching the image quality. If your serious about CS or Quake then I don't think the Viewsonic is for you but as a general all rounder - as far as gaming is concerned, its very competent when compared to the current mainstream 27" range.

Great! Thanks for that! Yeah, I started looking at the reviews of the 120Hz stuff and none were very forgiving when talking about image quality. I'm not interested in any competitive play or anything like that. I do enjoy shooters like Crysis and Bioshock but I think the Viewsonic would be perfect for these. Especially with the level of image quality it is able to achieve.

Alright, I think I am going to start sucking up to the wife and see where that gets me. I'll have to figure out way to blame a new monitor purchase on our baby. Maybe something like "The educational games will be so much prettier" or something to that effect... ;)
