Thoughts on the Silverstone Zeus 650W Power Supply ?

From what reviews I have read, it seems like the main complaints are it being noisy w/ only 1 80mm fan, excessive amount and length of cables *this is bad ?*, and mediocre efficiency.

Its pluses are very solid adjustable rails, 42W combined on 4 12 lines, SLI certified, and it has the 8pin ?expert? plug.

I plugged it in using the ?green wire jump? trick to hear the fan. It didn?t sound too bad, but I assume the RPM will increase once it is under a load.

I grabbed it because of the price *Its usually 160-170*, and I didn?t want to have to wait for shipping on a Seasonic. *Unless someone knows of where I can go pick one up in the East or South SF Bay area*

Any reason I should not hang onto this one ?

Only negative is that if you are trying to use it with a DFI SLI motherboard, that requires 2 extra power cables be plugged into the motherboard to run in SLI, you will run into problems, if you have more than 2 hard drives and 2 optical drives plugged into it.

There are some major issues with the DFI boards and extra voltage needed to run SLI, and having to many HD's connected up to the lines on that power supply causes SLI to be flakey.

If all or most of your drives are SATA then it is less of a problem. Since the onboard connectors for the DFI use a HD molex, and a floppy connector.

Other than that, with 2 optical drives and 2 HD's in my SLI system, it runs perfectly well. if I try to add anymore hard drives to the mix. it starts to flake.

Thanks for the reply. I am running the EVGA board, however I may go to a DFI in the future so it is good to know. One question does come to mind though, do you think this is a "Quirk" with the DFI board, or a weakness in the power supply ? For now I am running 1HD and 1optica w/ 1 video card, but I may get a wild hair to add more later so I want to get a very stout PS now to have some headroom down the road.

I think I will keep throw it in for awhile and see how I like it.

Man, I hate upgrading these things. Every other component, I know just what I want. When it comes to power supplies, I am as indecisive as hell.
