Thoughts on the short 970s?

The guy wants an upgrade. Stop bringing up 285s lol. I'd say try and buy the one with the best cooling. Search for video reviews.

Even during the summer, the ambient temp doesn't go higher than 72F. If anyone wants numbers in July, i'd be happy to provide them.

Right now, ambient temp dropped to 58F. Card now idling at 29c. Perhaps I have good case airflow.

If you had like a G1 Gaming or Msi Gaming 970,it would idle much lower i am sure.My rooms hotter then 72f and i am at 22cel idle as i type this on my Zotac 770.iv'e idled as low as 20cel.25cel is the norm if i remove my side 120mm.

My Strix is gonna take some time getting used to,hotter idles temps are fine but i guess 40-48cel is a typical idle. I rarely load that hot during some of my light games on my 770 lol.

I know noise is subjective, but you must have some loud case fans. In well ventilated case (Cooler Master Stacker 830) it would ramp up to 60-70% and sound like a vacuum cleaner. I submitted a ticket with Gigabyte asking if they had a BIOS with a quieter fan profile I could flash. They replied with one, but by then I'd sent it back. This was right after it was first released so subsequent cards might have had a different BIOS.

Yeah I applied the FW you speak of and it did lower the noise quite a bit. I am using a Fractal Design case.

Use flat SATA cables then you can get a full size card instead of a gimped card
