Never owned one myself but even in England they're famously unreliable. I think the evoque looks great for a small SUV though.

Don't like the look too much, although my gf likes it. I test drove a rr sport a while ago, and it felt like a solid car.

buy new and sell it in a 2-3 yrs before things start failing on it.

I have seen good reviews of the evoque, but it is still a range rover and their reliability is questionable at best

Range Rover has one of the worst reliability ratings in the automobile world.

You couldn't give me one.

If she is looking for a commuter, then she should be looking at the "B Segment"....Accent, Fiesta, Versa, Yaris, Mazda2, Fit, Rio, Soul, etc.

This is obviously someone who grew up a rich girl and is still rich. And you expect her to commute in a Fiesta?

A Range Rover Evoque is probably perfect for her.

IMO it looks like the new Explorers - makes sense since Ford owned Land Rover / Jaguar up until a few years ago and the design is probably shared to some extent...

If someone I knew liked the Evoque that much, I'd tell them to get an Explorer Limited for quite a bit less and call it a day.

It uses the Ford Turbo 2.0L - same as in the Explorer. $50 -55 K loaded up is spendy though!

Reliability has gotten much better over the past few years.

Whatever happened to the Defender, looks like it's NLA in north America. The Defender was the only Land Rover that interests me, although I'm not sure why I'd ever need an expedition vehicle.

Most "rich" people drive sensible cars (with some weekend toys on the side).

Posers and stupid people with a lot of money buy image cars.

Not really, but sure whatever.

They're not balling around in phantoms, but its usually at least a 5/E class at the minimum.

Right, that's when I go to balboa beach or the hamptons I see Focus's all over instead oflate model S class, bentleys, 7 series, range rovers. It's actally just the opposite, takes a rare bird like sam walden who drove a 20 year old pickup day he died. Most people enjoy money they have made. What's the point of making it otherwise?

Lol, no. Dunno what kind of 'rich' people you are observing, but clearly not 'rich' by everyone elses standards. Sure there are a few that bum around in 20yr old normal cars with millions in the bank. Then others that buy more premium vehicles, and enjoy driving something nice. She clearly has the money to spend on a 50k vehicle, no reason not to get the Evoque which gets good mileage and be a hell of a lot more comfortable than some compact car. Evoque is small anyway, be a good commuter vehicle imo.

Personally I love the design. It's not the most practical due to how small it gets in the back, but I must admit I would go for it anyway.

All my life from what I've read everything says that Land Rover has terrible reliability.

But...

I've driven a few and they are simply amazing machines when everything is working like someone above me has said. I also was able to drive a Range Rover Sport in Europe for almost a month over the summer and loved it. The version I drove had a diesel in it, and had 140,000 km. I asked my cousin if they had any problems with it, and he said no.

I haven't been much up to date with the newer Land Rover's, are they still as unrealiable as the old ones? Maybe this new Evoque is better? It got SUV of the year in Motor Trend.

In any case, considering everything works well, I like the car, it looks amazing and is getting great reviews.

Looks like you fell for the 1%'s propaganda. "We're rich because we're frugal and responsible with our money." Right...

Really? The owner of a previous company I worked for lived in Rancho Santa Fe and drove a Bentley Continental GT.

yeah she wants something to floss, even though she doeesn't want to admit it. she's thinking of either this or the audi q5...I'll just tell her to get rid of it before warranty expires either way.
