Thoughts on the next generation Lexus design

saw the new GS350 in person and it looks fantastic. the interior is very classy as well. It's about time lexus put an analog clock and got rid of the corolla digital clock ! I think the new grille looks great on the RX350 too from the spy shots i've seen.

Oh is that what that is? I like them all.

The GS especially, aggressive without being gaudy, wasn't it in a Bridgestone commercial? I made an unexpected double-take when I saw it

new GS nose looks too boy racer to me.

edit: particularly the F sport.

and the hoffmeister kink needs to go away.

The reason i havent formed a solid opinion is on one hand it's not as bland as before, and I could agree with the "more aggressive" view, but on the other I feel as if they lost some of the elegance they were after in earlier years.

Audi in my opinion seems to be the only manufacturer to balance the two (even the a6 avant that isnt available in the U.S. looks great). Maybe Lexus is trying to copy that with the size of their front grille.

All of them are gorgeous. I've been a fan of their L-Finesse concept, which was a concept of last gen's design (which was also beautiful. Can't understand ppl saying it's bland, TBH) and it just got better. Simply one of the best non-exotic car designs so far.

Haven't formed an opinion on it yet, but the ES looks like its almost as big as the GS in the first set of pics.

Actually, in fact, ES has been always bigger than GS of the same era, except the 1st gen GS, which was bigger than the 2nd gen ES. Since then (97/98MY), ES has been always bigger than GS.

I'm not sure, it has to grow on me.

It looks like someone took the clay model and pinched the front.

I was actually going to make a thread about this, namely how Infiniti seems to be ripping off the Lexus grill shape now (just making it more horizontal and not quite as smushed in).

I think it looks awful. The Lexus looks like someone said, hey, we want to rip off Audi/Volkswagen (and how many others...) big gaping maw look, but we don't want to be as obvious as when we ripped off the old S-Class. Guy is looking at cars on an iPad and then notices him pinching to zoom and then goes "Eureka!"

The Japanese car companies designs the past few years have just gone off a cliff, they're way too overstyled. Its like they got tired of people calling their stuff boring so decided to go completely overboard.

I don't feel like it is cohesive enough...but I think it is better than it was before. It is slowly growing on me...but as someone already said...the German's have nothing to worry about.

I think they're a great mix of two sort of markets... from the side they look very classy and elegant, then it turns to look at you and it looks like it might punch you in the face front end.

I bought a IS350 last year and my dad loves it and is strongly considering the GS350 f-sport.

It's hideous. And every time you put cruise control on, you'll remember that you are in a Toyota.
for me its opening the hood and seeing that half of the parts say "Toyota" on them.

the German's have nothing to worry about.
I disagree, I haven't seen any change from a german car in so long... they're just all starting to become "cookie cutter" to me. Don't get me wrong, I would love a 335i but it is really somewhat bland on the exterior... hats off to Lexus/Toyota for taking a bit of a chance

I'm more surprised with some of the new engine offerings (Rx2.7, ES2.5)

Because all this is is lipstick on the same boring crap as they usually put out. All it does is they took an audi front end and sneezed and somehow decided it looks ok. If they are going for the new-money boy ricer look at me crowd then perhaps, you have a point.

My 335i looks classy enough from the inside and outside and makes me giggle like a fucking school girl when I put my foot down and blow through on and off ramps. A JB4 335i is just as fast/faster than an IS-F (a stupid car to begin with). The only thing you get with an IS350 is a stupid fisher price quality interior. I'm actually pissed I got a 2011, the 2012 redesign looks so much nicer.

This will be as usual where it'll have an uptick where all the people that have a lexus hardon buy it then itll go back its normal mediocre sales.
