Thoughts on the Dollar Coin

bad... i have a hard time holding onto coins.. they always slip out of my pocket when i'm lying on my couch or when i'm driving. i can deal with losing pennies and nickels and dimes and an occasional quarter... losing a dollar would hurt.
I actually liked the dollar coins that were floated a while back. I keep a 5 of them duct-taped together in my bike's saddle bag for whatever.....people look at you kinda funny when you use them, but oh well.
That said, I wouldn't want to carry a bunch of change around the rest of the time.

the new dollar coin was introduced in new york city transit about 3 years ago. it wasn't a hit.
for those of us who rode the subway and paid cash, if we paid $15 for a $10 metrocard, we'd get $5 back -- not a single $5 bill, but 5 individual heavy coins. from that point on, everyone aimed to pay their subway fare with correct change, because those coins were just too heavy.
i hate them, and i wouldn't go for it.

It depends on how many of them you are carrying.

if we stop printing paper currency and go to all coin currency (or most coin currency) i think it would be a terrible idea
many people in this country under the age of 20 cant even read an analog clock (the one with hands)... throw in a coin that looks like the others and we have massive problems

I would love it! Plus people spend coin faster than paper so it may help to give a small boost to the economy (just a bit). I'm ready for the American twoney!

I have had one of those coins in my hand and they are NOT heavy, unless you think that a quarter is heavy. Perhaps we need to bulk up as a nation so we can carry all those heave dollar coins. I like the idea of the dollar coins because the one dollar bills just fill up the wallet, besides the dollar bill doesn't last very long in circulation but coin can easily last 30 years. Think about the budget for a minute.
I think that I would look good carrying a man-purse, however, I would refuse to. I will just stick to keeping all of my money in 100's like God and Dr Dre had intended.

The smaller the denomination of bill, the more it circulates and the faster it wears out. Thus they wanted to replace the bill that circulated the most and wore out the most.
I spent six of the Sacajawea dollars on a matinee movie ticket the last weekend. The girl gave me a strange look, went to go ask another employee about them, then came back and gave me an even stranger look before giving me my movie ticket.
It's not too inconvenient to have coins, especially if you have $2 bills or coins too.
And it saves the gov't a ton of money in production costs.
