Thoughts on the ATI All in Wonder 9000 pro

i have one on order.

i was just about to purchase the AIW 8500dv when i stumbled across some info on the aiw 9000 pro.

i was wondering if any of you guys actually own one and what you think of it. There are a few hardware site reviews, and almost no consumer reviews.

my roommate has one of the original all-in-wonder radeon8500's, and it seems to work fine. ATi's media center has grown by leaps and bounds since the old ATi TV wonder days and provides plenty of stability using WDM drivers. i'd say go for it. The only drawback is the background noise resulting from the audio loop back cable- that stuff annoys the sh!t outa me.

I hate to tell you this, but the 8500 is probably faster than the 9000. If you search AnandTech for articles about the 9000, it is basically a cut down R200 core.

I've always favored a discrete TV Tuner card over integrated ones - TV Tuner cards don't change a whole lot, whereas GPUs and video cards that are fast now are usually slow next year.

Yup, I too hate to tell you but the 8500 GPU will be faster.

Yup, I too hate to tell you but the 8500 GPU will be faster.

i should of done more research.

i assumed the aiw 9000 pro would be better since it was recently released.

live and learn,

i'm an occasional gamer, i like the card more for its video editing, tv tuner possibilities.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAIIT!!! These guys are all harping about the speed of the GPU but they're forgetting about a MAJOR factor! The quality of the whole "all-in-wonder" part! THIS is VASTLY IMPROVED in the new AIW VE, 9000 and 9800 cards... the ATI Theatre 200 chip is much, much nicer video quality for TV viewing and video recording.
That's why you got an AIW to begin with, right?

Sure it's a liiiittle bit slower with 3D games, but all the multimedia stuff will look GREAT! Better then the older 8500 AIW's by far! You did good.

He's absolutely right. The rage 200 chip is 12 bit which is much better image quality. Also, it has videosoap and hardware mpg2 encoding.
It also has a free upgrade from ati.com to MMC 8.1 and a new MMC which will be available VERY shortly with the cats 3.4.
The AIW 9000 is vastly superior to the ATI 8500 or the AIW8500DV. nice choice.
