I literally just started playing but I wanted to see if anyone had some thoughts on the game as a whole and if there is any raiding involved or what kind of end game content I should expect. So far I love it, just the atmosphere of the game is awesome and I haven't had as much fun creating my guy in a game in a loooong time.

Glad you enjoy it.

Basically from my playing, there is a core gameplay of two activities, space combat and land missions that are 90% of questing.

The quests range from grindy to carefully written nice stories.

There are guilds (fleets) and there are raids and pvp battles.

I find the game pretty confusing as to many of the items and upgrades and crafting.

From how you feel so far, I'd think you will find a lot to keep enjoying with the stories and upgrades, as you specialize in one or more of three ship types starting at level 11.

They did great at the look of a lot of things. It's an attractive game.

Expect to be bored in less than 4 weeks. It's good fun for a little while but even now, still lacks any substantial challenge or content.

There's lots of content. I like it. The warping to and from places takes some time though missions and content is pretty good when there's story or action.

Hm well I still have almost a month and a half left on my free sub because of a giveaway alienware arena have, still enjoying it and just got my first ship. I might keep paying for it monthly and see how far I get and if I can get into any fleets, its pretty interesting still. I think I just got burned out on WoW for now and any change is good lol.

I played it for the first hour and loved it. Cryptic had hit it out of the park was on my mind.

I played it for a few days after that. Cryptic had gone back to the original CoH formula... being bored. It leveled off very fast from fun to bland. Once you get over the initial "woohoo Star Trek!" phase it can't hold up. I loved what happened to CoH/CoV later down the line (prior to the company change) and that's why I gave it a chance, but it just didn't do it for me.

Same with Champions Online. At least that's now F2P I understand.

The singular worst expenditure of video game money in my life.

100% Agree.

I was one of the fools that ran to the store and bought the game new for 70$ CAD. I installed it and thought that the graphics we're decent and the space combat looked cool at first. Until I noticed a spaceship can't do loops or fly up/down more than 20degrees ...

And then I did a planet mission .... first thing I thought to myself; wtf!? These looks like EQ1 graphics! Don't even get me started no the AI.

After a few weeks of playing I realised this game was a complete waste of money. I was spamming 2 buttons during space combat and I completely dreaded doing away missions. Every planet had the same tree, rock, etc ...

I refused to pay for an extra month and was extremely mad at myself for ignoring the reviews.

I learned a valuable lesson - never pay full price for any game. Especially an MMO. Just wait a couple of months and if the game doesn't go F2P, it will at least drop in price by a large fraction.

Game publishers are training customers to wait and buy it for less, and a problem with that is that it's going to lower price points and cut the budgets for games.

I don't want to see the gaming industry move to not having AAA great titles and one filled with 'casual' and budget games.

I am glad to see the OP really enjoying the game; it's not for everyone.

the game gets old fast tho..

Honestly... 3 months tops.. of fun... then your going to rot...
i have like 15 end game characters in STO, with roughly around 200 million energy credits, and thats with after CRUSHING the exchange by blowing almost 220 million...
no im not kidding... the game is so boring now, things like causing havok on the exchange is the only fun most end people get with it.

LOL here is my login screen... u can see it extends down:
star&

I made Healbot Engie Crusier, DPS Tatical Escort, STF ONLY Tact. Escort, RAID Ground Engie, Crowd Control Sci, A ground based Sci... 2 kling carrier pilots... I didnt character reset.. i basically rerolled... Oh.... this is a must if you want any decient bridge officers... Some can get really expensive OR require u to extensively Farm for them, you only get bridge officers until Rear Admiral 5... then u basically need to reroll, or buy them off the exchange.

I have now 3 ships with all Efficient Bridge Officers.... and yes that was part of me blowing like 220 million... :p

I use childlike names because u get majorly underestimated.. it typically ends like this in chat:
LOLz.png

Theres a lot of problems with game engine and Nvidia 500 series video cards.
The Economy in the game absolutely blows... its ridiculously easy to make Energy Credits if you know how to do all the illegal things one would do in the stock exchange.
Crafting is a JOKE... ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE JOKE... its like they dont know what "crafting" and "crafters" are...

The GM's dont really care about "balance" they shift things around because they are "cool" and dont realize the consequences which comes with it.

The game is heavily into Guilds... PVP is Dominated by Guilds... basically u dont PVP unless ur in a premade or partial premade. If you do, you will get royally spanked by the higher tier fleets because, well, they (i included) tend to exploit everything the DEV's thinks are cool, And the DEV's STILL DONT FIX THEM, even tho its a clear expliot.

The Dev's during the first PVP session in season 3 had NO END GAME CHARACTERS.
They forgot about the extra levels u can get...
^explains a lot why they shifted to F2P.

Klingon fraction blows... very little content... and the DEV's cant leave the carrier alone... They Nerf it... Boost it.. Nerf it again... and again... boost it.

Basically i gave up on the game... but i am still active with the people in the guild.

Im in the 528th... if u want to socialize in a fleet, let me know...
The 528th should be pretty strong still in STO...

I am confused here . . . people thought STO would be worth playing? The game had FAIL written all over it from the day it was announced.

Until some MMO comes along that breaks the mold, I doubt I'll play anything except my free LOTRO.

well besides EVE there really isnt any MMO's which involve large starship... :p

Although EVE does break anything that STO has in term of "actual size"...

STO lacks any type of real scale..
