Just wondering what people thought about the above monitor?
Any comments would be appreciated.

Well, I dont have one so dont take my opinion to heart to much but I have been looking for a 19" monitor myself..
A lot of people say they like this monitor but The ones I have looked at in the stores seem a little dull..
By dull I mean, low contrast (gray blacks) and faded colors.. I am also used to working on an TFT Laptop screen, which in general have much brighter displays than CRT tubes..

I would recommend the Samsung 955 DF over the Viewsonics. They are both good monitors, but the Samsung is a solid, reasonably priced, 19-inch flat-screen monitor that offers satisfactory display quality for mainstream users.

The 955df is good but not great, decent quality and nice looking. Depends on what kind of deal you are getting on it i guess. I haven't had any real experience with the viewsonic.

I found a deal on the 955DF for $229 which includes shipping.
I bought a viewsonic E90F from staples and when plugged it in it
squeals and it also is no where near flat. So i'm returning it this weekend.
I've read a whole bunch of reviews on the 955DF and they seem to say
"you get what you pay for" where this monitor is cheap but the image quality
is not excellent but not poor either.

The other monitor I have been considering is the Dell trinitron p991.

So if anyone has experience with either of these please post..

Thanks all.

what about the viewsonic e95, it´s not flat but it has better refresh rates than the e90f.

E90f

0.21mm horizontal pitch, 0.25mm diagonal pitch

1600 x1200@ 68Hz
1280 x 1024@ 80HZ
1024 x 768 @105HZ
800 x 600 @132HZ

E95

0.22mm horizontal dot pitch
0.26mm diagonal dot pitch

1600 x 1200 @ 76Hz
1280 x 1024 @ 88Hz
1024 x 768 @ 116Hz

I dont know well what to stimate more, iq or smothness, right know i prefer smothness.

I am personally looking for a flat screen. I code quite a bit and therefore im
looking for the clarity and the flatness of the screen for the lack of distortion..
Anything to make coding easier.. So suggestion are welcome as to what to buy
with a budget of 200-300 dollars..

thanks

OK if you want a great 19inch monitor i wouldnt recomend the 955Df. I have the 755Df and dont like it at all. It flickers so badly, and i have done everything to fix it and have resorted to having it at adapter default and can see a line move up the screen. BUT i also went to see a doctor about it b/c no else in my famly could see it flickeing and he said i have unbeleivable senative eyes. But if you wanna spend $50 more to get a trinitron i would HIGHLY recomend this. They are superior to shadow mask hands down ( ulness the little lines ont the screen bother you alot). Go to dell.com and go to the home section. They have the WHITE NOT BLACK
P991 for like $340 plus with the $20 off that brings it to $275. This monitor is just a rebagged Sony G420. It will give you great picture quality. It has the exact same specs as the sony except is in a dell case. And you get free shipping. PM me if you have any questions. BTW i am buying this monitor and selling my 755DF as soon as i can. Just stay away from shadow mask crts.

<< Just stay away from shadow mask crts. >>

Kind of a generalized statement. Most manufacturers have low end and high end models. Problem with shadow mask is most companies use that technology for their low end. I have seen good monitors that are shadow mask, too.

My guess is the 955df is a more econ model. Some people have complained about the focus on the sides. My current desktop has an AG tube for games mostly. The other size sat an LCD for everything else but that is on its way back for several reasons. I am not positive what's going on the other side yet. ;)

Flat CRT monitors are just as susceptible to geometric distortion as slightly curved CRTs. In fact you can argue that they have more distortion due to the refractive index of the glass creating a concave look. To flatten out the CRT face the manufacturers simply added more glass to the corners. This is why all flat CRT monitors weigh 5-7 Lbs. more than conventional CRT?s.
