Decent buy at $140? I do plan plan on rooting. Looking for nothing fancy, just bang for buck.

Wait a week

Rumor has it the Nexus 7 is coming out with a 32gb version for $249. If it is coming out it will be announced this week (it was going to be announced tommorrow but a hurricane possibly hitting new york causes a delay since the event was scheduled for new york.)

Currently there is a nexus 7 16gb for $249 and a nexus 7 8gb for $199

No one knows if they are going to discontinue the 16gb and keep the 8gb for $199 or if they are discontinuing the 8gb and bringing the 16gb to $199. Regardless of what they do you may see deals with the nexus 7 in the 200ish range.

A new nexus 7 is a real tablet that gets the latest android updates, is faster, and has a higher resolution screen. Yes it lacks a sd slot but it is better than a nook tablet in every way. It does cost a little more but not much more than a refurb nook tablet.

lack of SD card on a nexus 7 isn't a problem, USB OTG works and you can just use a usb thumb drive

If you aren't rooting, the the Nook Tablet is a horrible choice. It's stock configuration doesn't have the Google Play store, you are stuck with B&N's very limited app selection.

As Zerocool said, you can get a new Kindle Fire for around that price now. Amazon's Appstore is much larger.

But spending a bit more on a $200 Nexus 7 seems like a no brainer though. Maybe you can find some clearance 8GB Nexus 7s cheap this Monday if that's enough room for you.

Depending on what you want to do with it, I'd agree with the others. Assuming you plan on rooting it because you want an actual tablet type experience then I expect you'll be disappointed.

Walmart now has the nexus 7 16gb for $199+tax(which I just ordered). So it will be likely this is the new price.

Staples also has the 16gb Nexus 7 for $199 now. Some of their stores also have the 8gb version but I don't know what clearance price will be or when it would happen.
