Just got back from the Borgata at Atlantic City, while there tried pai gow poker for the first time, and suprisingly won about $200 on a $15 table (then lost all that at Blackjack).

It seems to me that pai gow has pretty good odds of winning, anyone have any thoughts experiences on this. Is it a good game to play or did I just get lucky this time?

Note, for those who don't know the rules: Rules

The house still has the edge because if you do win, they get a 5% commission fee and if you lose, you lose your whole bet. Most of the time, you will be pushing, unless the dealer gets some kind of monster hand. If you do get a chance, try to be dealer as much as you can because on tie hands, you will be the victor.

Good Luck!

But when being a dealer you have to cover all the bets on the table .... you basically have to pay everyone if you lose to their hand... correct?

of course. but you will have the advantage. if you don't have enough funds to cover the table then go to a table where its just you and the dealer.

It's a great game if you just want to sit and drink for a while without a bunch of money changing hands.

pai gow is a drinking mans game. if you have a lot of time to waste you can probably sit there for a hr and still have the same amount of money you came in there with. the odds are still stacked going the house's way since you have to pay commission also. blackjack still has the best odds. thats the only game i will play.

I played mostly Pai Gow when I was in Vegas last month. I had a good streak going but then dealer went on a even better streak and wiped me out. You can stay at a table for a good hour or two by betting just the minimum but that house edge is going to take you out eventually.

Pai Gow is an even game until the 5% is taken out. It is also an extremely low volitile game because a lot of hands are ties. This means that you can sit down at the table and play for hours and not win or lose any money.

Basically it is the game to play when you are low on money, but want to play something to get free drinks. You can easily recover your losses in drinks playing that game. With a little luck you can even win some money.
