Hi guys,
my parents bought a tv (as title states) was just wondering if this projector tv is decent as this doesn't sound like a reputable brand. Would just like to know
your thoughts on this as you guys have more knowledge with tv's.

Thanks!

Did they buy it from a White Van?
That's the only place I've known them to be sold (other than suckers trying to resell their mistake on Craigslist).
Total junk.
Telltale signs:
Before looking it up-
Ripoff of popular names of good electronics. Optoma is a good projector brand, Optimax is not. Pioneer is a decent brand, the subname Pioneer is not.
After looking it up-
No easy to find manufacturer website. (the real Optimax is an optics manufacturer, not a cheap electronics maker).
Crap Optimax is Optimax-3d or something.
MSRPs are rediculously high, then there a discount. i.e. MSRP $7,999, we will sell them straight to you for $2,999. (Although they are worth a quarter of that.)
They are found on eBay and Craigslist, while not always bad, if you know how to spot scams it's easy to see.
The packaging for the products look like a 12 year old on acid had an hour with Photoshop and some awesome clipart of lightning, rainbows, circuit boards, lasers, etc.
I could go on all day about this junk, but you get the point.

So basically they're just a rip off of another product. Would you happen to know if the quality etc is decent because my parents bought it off their good friend and I don't think they would want to ask for their money back. Btw the brand on the box says optimax no 3d at the end. God my parents fail at technology

The quality if your basic Chinese crap electronics.
Overrated specs, etc. Not worth much if anything.
The product name is Optimax, but that name was already taken by a reputable company, so they added the "-3d".
Their "good friend" screwed them.

Hopefully it wasn't terribly expensive.

It is also possible/likely that their friends didn't know what they were buying either. I wouldn't be so quick to jump to the "friends ripped them off" conclusion.

err, there is an Optimax HD-P800 projector. What did they buy, a projector or a RPTV?

As my family and their friends are asian (lol) I don't think they could resist the "cheap" deal, they purchased it for 1.4k with the projector screen and some Bosco hdmi cable. I have plugged this in and it worked but I'm scared that this rip off brand which was made in china will fail within a few months or even weeks, so I don't know what I should do about it.

So it's an Optimax HD-P800 projector.

I guess it's a PRC brand of some sort.

Not a terrible deal....but not GREAT either.

And OP, Made in China is not the problem per se. The problem is if it's designed by China ;)

Hold on a minute guys . I actually own one of these projectors, and "I love it". It works just the way it should. It's not a TV, it's a projector. It can be used as a tv if I plug it into my cable box. I really don't understand the original post asking about a tv. Then there was something about an asian deal . Maybe they just don't understand what it is and maybe you don't either. It's sad, that now days, a great product can be trashed with negative remarks from people who don't even own one or how to use one. Well, I own one, and it works, great too. I can't be happier with it. I did buy it from a local store and don't understand the craigslist remark either.

Perhaps you can link us to the website of the company. Should be in the literature that came with the projector. I couldn't find a reference other than in Chinese websites so I assumed it was a PRC interior brand.

LOL, you know as well as I do theres no store he bought it from, and "backyardtheater" is a shill. :D
They do have a website, but like with all White Van Scam product websites, it's full of overinflated "MSRP's", overrated specs and fake "reviews".
I've seen too much of this junk after friends and acquaintances are dumb enough to buy it and come to me when it severely underperforms.
These products work, but you're getting a moped when you thought you scored a Lamborghini.
The dirtbag sellers of this junk scour the internet for bad reviews/opinions and try to assure people that the stuff is legit. Luckily we're smarter than that.

Where did you buy the product? Maybe I'll get one and see for myself.
Ordering directly off the website doesn't work.

Anyone want to place bets on whether backyardtheater and BVision2011 are the same person, who works for/sells these knock-off projectors?

Hi there, im new here and also buy this things about week's ago on a white van that everybody was talking about. i have tested on my own. what was i thinking, this product is not bad at all. This projector has every adaptor avail so you can hook it up to any electronics, and again the picture is awesome especially when watching football or playing X-Box and is a hell of a lot cheaper than a new flat screen or any competitor projectors of its caliber. If your expecting Movie Theater quality then Sony makes one for $6500 or you can get almost the same for much less. I'm extreamly happy w/ my choice.

Assuming your a real person and not a spammer. You think it's good because you don't know any better and have never seen what a "Movie Theater" quality projector looks like.

I like this line from a seller I found on ebay.
NATIVE RESOLUTION: 1920 X 1080
MAX RESOLUTION (INTERPOLATED): 800*480 SUPPORT 800*600
I wonder what that's supposed to mean...
