What are the thoughts on this particular SSD?

$339 after rebate, good till the end of the day, Jan 31st, 2010.

2.8 per gb price ratio, and pretty darn good read write speeds from what I can gather.

I think 80gb would be just a little to small for me, and 160gb from Intel is $450+ from the Egg.

I'm using one with Windows 7 right now. Upgraded the firmware to 1.5 and performance has been very solid. It boots up and shuts down damn fast. Programs are very fast to load. I thought I had an issue but turned out to be a Win 7 problem (still not resolved) and not related to the SSD. Picked mine up for just under $300 after cash back, rebates and sale that Newegg had just over a month ago or so. OCZ forums are very good for support also.

I have a Vertex 120gb, a Kingston Intel based 40gb, an Intel G2, and a Super Talent Indilinx based drive. There's really no discernible difference between all the drives. They all boot up wonderfully fast and Photoshop CS4 opens pretty damn fast (under 5 seconds).

You'll be happy with any of the modern SSDs, be they Intel or Indilinx based. So get the one that fits your capacity, which you seem to be doing.

Thanks for the feedback.

Capacity wise 120 seems to fit in, and it's a lot cheaper than the 160 from Intel.

I'm assuming these may come down in price once Sandforce gets ramped up in production, but with the current price of $4/gb for that, I can live with the speed of this generation.

I figured the current price is pretty good, but knowing Newegg, they'll have another deal on this drive once the current one expires, so I'm on the fence.

I don't mind waiting longer, as I've waited this long already. I've also kept on eye on the Hot Deals forum as well as other sites, and currently Newegg has the best price on the drive, just wish it was combo'd with something a little better than what's currently listed.

Remember, you can get 2% cash back via Bing (cashback.bing.com) so that will be almost $8.00 back. :)

Yep, went thru their site, and then all of the SSD links I could think of, and Newegg still has the best price. ;)

Thought about going with Win 7 as well, but since the Technet post in Hot Deals seems to be the way to go, I won't combo that with the drive.

Granted 3 of those would be slightly cheaper than one 120gb, but what would be the benefit of that? One for the OS, and two for apps/games?

I'm not looking to raid them, so I don't think I'd gain any speed benefit.

I don't see a reason to have more drives, as it is I have two 250gb drives, one for the OS, and the other it's clone, four 500gb internal drives for storage, four WD Black TB drives(internal, but used externally with a docking bay, for more storage/backup, and 2 750gb external for even more backup.

I figured I'd use the 120gb SSD for my OS and some apps/games, and I would pull the two 250gb's out of the system, and then just backup the SSD using one of the 250gb external with my docking bay.

If there's a good reason to go with 3 SSD's over 1, I'd seriously consider it, but for the few dollars more to go with the 120 makes more sense to me.

SSD's are still in the PITA stage of tech at this point, regardless of RAID. RAID just adds incrementally to the pain (Just the way I see it.) As for the difference:

Here's 1x64GB Vertex:

Here's 3x30GB Vertex, on AMD no less:

Those are just the two examples I found first, taken from the most recent posts here in a FW v1.5 results thread:

Those are great speeds, but still going with RAID.

That's not something I'm planning on doing, even though Sully's 3 120gb Vertex's are through the roof.

Go for it...i have a 120 Vertex and a 80gig X25 G1, and I can't tell the difference when I tried each as my system disk. Both will be better then any spinning HD though.

I was wondering about that... the idea that any Indilinx SSD would work rather than going for the premium Intel SSD. SSDs in general have low latency and great read performance, which I feel are most utilized (booting, loading programs, etc). Writing performance might not be as impressive in cheaper SSDs, but my cheap Agility SSD certainly doesn't feel slow whatsoever. I actually found myself less than overwhelmed by my Agility since installing programs over the network or from a disc is just as slow as ever (for obvious reasons).

That's not to say I'm not satisfied with my new SSD, even though the new Sandforce SSDs looks incredibly impressive. I'm tempted to get one just because on paper it's very impressive, but if I got one and started using it, I probably wouldn't notice how much more awesome it is over my budget Agility SSD.

I certainly wish there's a 120GB Agility, I could probably use some more space than 60GB on my laptop.... It's enough (currently have 40GB free), but more the better.
