thoughts on new Kaby system build

I'd appreciate any thoughts on the new system I'm putting together to replace my Sandy bridge system. I've started having some overheating issues but mostly I just want to build a new system with M2, usb 3.1, ddr4, etc.

I don't game I mostly work with a large video and music collection. I use winRAR, 7zip, Par2 and sometimes re-encode blu-ray. Also used for web browsing email etc. will use onboard graphics unless you guys can talk me into a very quiet video card.

Quiet is important to me and I'll be looking into 140mm fans for the case and radiator

cpu Intel Kaby Lake 7700k this is definite
mb Asus Prime z270A this is pretty definite too
case Fractal define r5 _ I really like my R4 but open to suggestions
ram Coirsair Vengance LPX 32gb dram 3333 I can get a pretty good deal on this RAM but not certain on compatibility or if I need 32gb
ssd Samsung 960 pro 512 gb So I really look forward to trying out an m2 drive but is the EVO just as good? Or another drive? the 960 Pro is pretty expensive.
Cooler - looking at Corsair H90 140mm which I would probably modify with two quiet fans (I have an H60 in my current rig) Any others I should look at?
PS I am using a modular Corsair now - looking for a quiet one.
I will mount some sata drives but also keep my sandy bridge and Pro box for hard drives.

So I love the looks of the new Asus board. I haven't built a computer in 6 years so cost is not a huge concern. But I wouldn't mind saving a couple hundred if I could get the same performance.

I will try some mild overclocking and will be choosing a new 4k monitor also.
thanks for any thoughts

So absolutely 100% committed to the 7700k, with no wiggle room? If you were a gamer, I'd say great choice. But since work with video and encode, the 6800k might be a better fit for your needs. But anyways, if you are going with the 7700k here are my other thoughts on your build:

Quietness - If you want quiet, go with an traditional heatsink/fan like a Noctua, Be Quiet!, Cryorig, Deepcool, or the many other options out there.

Motherboard- Asus is a good choice, and that board is pretty loaded with features.

960 PRO - The 960 EVO is almost as fast, but only comes with a 3 year warranty compared to 5 years for the PRO. The EVO also has a 200 TBW (TLC NAND) warranty while the PRO is 400 TBW (MLC NAND). If you write a lot of data to the drive, the 960 PRO might be a better choice. If you aren't doing an insane amount of writes, the 960 EVO gives you almost as good performance for less. You might want read Anandtech's review of both of the drives as it will explain a lot about what would work for you.

Fractal Design R5 - Great case and I own two of them. They are very quiet, and have great air flow with the right fans.

RAM - As long as it appears either on the motherboard manufacturer's QVL (tested memory) or is certified to work properly by the RAM manufacturer by using their "RAM finder" tools available on their individual websites. If you have to ask if you need 32 GB of RAM, you likely don't. You can do whatever you normally do with your system and look at how much RAM you actually use while doing it. You likely don't use more than 16 GB, but the Windows Resource Monitor will show you for sure.

Anyways, that's my .02 on it, but hopefully someone else will come along and offer their viewpoints so you can make an 'informed purchase', and ensure you are happy with your new build.

Thank you for your thoughts. Kaby is kind of necessary because of a Digital Rights thing. I don't reencode often mostly move large files around so usb 3.1 may be my biggest upgrade 🙂
