Thoughts on external One Touch drive

Maxtor = No.

SeaGate's external drives aren't especially inspiring either, even though their internal drives are the best out there.

If you need an external drive, Western Digital for the win. Best option is still to buy an internal drive and an enclosure and assemble it yourself.

You get what you pay for. Not thrilled with Maxtor since they only give you a 1 year warranty, but there's nothing wrong with their external enclosures. I have a one-touch 120Gb drive that's a year old. Recently I replaced the internal drive in the enclosure with a 200Gb just because I have a spare 200Gb and I needed some more space on it.

The drive has given me zero trouble.

Just newegg/zipzoom/directron/SVC/whoever your way around. They're generally between $30 and $40. Adaptec is a pretty well known brand, but might have a bit of a price premium because of it.
