Thoughts on Denver for a vacation?

There are a lot of parks and so that would be the main attraction for going there.

Any thoughts on Denver in general? The Wikipedia entry didn't catch my eye with anything to visit for besides the parks, would the parks be the biggest thing to go for?

Anyone? :p

(I know it's only been 20 minutes, but as a Lifer, I expect more from these pledges)

Tour Coors in Golden.

Drive the Phantom Canyon Rd between Canon City and Victor. Search for Gold Belt Byway. Beware of snow this time of the year anywhere in the mountains.

Skiing, etc.

I can think of about 50 places I'd rather go on vacation but it's your call. I'd look elsewhere, though.

What kind of parks? Camping? Personally, from first hand experience, I much prefer the redwood forests of coastal northern California. The bonus, of course, being that you are also near the ocean.

Denver will be cold, don't forget to wear a Red Sox jacket to keep you warm.

you kidding? its only the most spectacular looking state in the nation, and dare i say the world? ive been on a national geographic top-10 train ride through voss and bergen, norway. the rockies look like that, except less expensive.

youre close enough to a cool college town in boulder. theres rocky mountain national park. go skiing anywhere. take weekend drive-trips through durango and ouray. see ft collins, etc.. all that good stuff

Denver's one of those 'one dayer' attractions. You know, spend a day there hitting the popular attractions. Any more time and you'll just be depriving yourself of what is surrounding Denver. Not even on the same level as San Francisco for cool stuff to see and do.

When I was there I split my time between Denver and Colorado Springs and between the two we thought it was a nice vacation. Down by CS is Pikes Peak, took the cog railway to the top, Garden of the Gods park was very nice, and we checked out the American Numismatic Association museum to see their collection of rare coins. Like others said, I would be concerned about snow in the mountains at this time of year.

I would go to Colorado for two reasons and two reasons only: 1. the largest number of microbrews in the country. 2. some of the best skiing in the world 2-4 hours north. I have been through the Denver Airport each of the past five years (ski vacations) and only actually been to Denver once. Other than the US Mint, the state Capital, and a hugmungous REI store theres not much to see.
