Thoughts on class-action lawsuit against EA for NFL license

I would like to know what everyone thinks about the recent class-action lawsuit against about the exclusive NFL license.

The people bringing the lawsuit don't stand a snowballs chance in hell of winning anything. There are already exclusive contracts for jerseys, hats, footballs, et al... what makes this any different? Yeah, it stinks... but its business. People can still make football games, but they can't use the NFL properties to do so.

I meant to add EA in that first post. I wonder what ever happened to boycotting.

Boycotting would require people to not play games they want to play. That's not going to happen.

I've never cared for sports games, but illegal or not it certainly doesn't help the progress of making a better product if others CAN'T compete.

Yeah, I don't know what those people were thinking, they'll just end up wasting a bunch of money and possibly time on it (kudos to whatever lawyer(s) convinced them they might have a case and will likely take them to the cleaners over it). I remember when it was first announced that some people started yelling about monopolies, I tried to explain to some why that was not the case.

If only you could start a class action lawsuit against them for releasing a 60 dollar patch every august.

Is there much of an improvement with each year of the Madden NFL games? They might just not upgrade each year.

People wanted to boycott all EA games. Good luck with that one. Boycotting Madden sounds more feasible, but the people who buy it every year are the people who can't play the game without updated rosters.

The last football game I bought was ESPN 2K5. I can still play Madden, but I wouldn't ever buy the game. It is dumb that no one can compete with EA, but there is no way a class action lawsuit is going to fix that.

Like me!

I'll buy Madden every year. It's tradition. Does it suck they have an exclusive NFL license? Yea, I think so. Competition makes for a better end product. Am I going to avoid buying the game because of it? No.

I lucked out this year and got a $100 NFLshop gift certificate for buying my TV, so I preordered 2 copies of Madden 09 with it.

Edited out the part that made no sense, but did when I was writing it.
