Thoughts on circuit training?

I'm starting to work out again at a gym next week, and my trainer is a huge believer in circuit training. I always prefer a cut appearance, fwiw.

I'm wondering what anyone with experience thinks of circuit training? I have 11 months and I was wondering what sort of results circuit training would give in comparison to say, straight weightlifting.

Most of the phases of my program consist of circuits. I do it mainly because it gives a bit of a cardio component and leave less sitting time between sets. By that I mean you recover while you go over to the next machine and not by just sitting there and waiting to do your next set. I also find that it takes less time. On the other hand it can be a pain if the gym is busy and they don't have a section set aside for circuits.

The gym i'm going to is extremely expensive, but there's never a delay in the circuit training. There's a max of 8 people in the gym at any given time (it's a large gym), so your whole workout goes without interruption.

Is it more or less effective than weightlifting for someone who wants to get bigger, but ultimately be cut?

Sorry I dont have a answer to your question? I'm a road cyclist and the last thing I want to do is get bigger. I just want to tone what I already have.
