Thoughts on Alhurra?

It's been getting some publicity lately, in part because it was one of the Arab channels on which Bush appeared after the Abu photos were released. It's based in Virginia, and funded entirely by American taxes. Certainly the opposite of the libertarian view of state funding of media, but it does present another take on Iraqi/Arab events.

The guy that runs it was on CNN a week or so ago. He said that they were funded by a US grant, but they control all of otheir own content. Whether or not that's true, I'm not sure.

I saw a special on it right now. It's a Fair and Balanced news of the middle east. Sounds fair enough. Fox news for the Arabs. Might be good to counter the trash Al Jazeera spits out.
