Hey all, been lurking around here a while now =) Well here is a PC setup I am thinking of building, just wondering what people here thought of it. I am not as computer savvy as I like to be so I turn to all of you =)

Processor
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ Socket 939

Mobo
DFI LanParty NF4 SLI-DR

Graphic Card
Either eVGA Geforce 6800GT or a ATI Radeon X850 XT PE

RAM
OCZ 2x512 PC3200 DDR SDRAM

HDD
160GB Seagate Barracuda

Soundcard
Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS

DVD burner
NEC ND-3520A BG

Monitor
19" Viewsonic E90F + SB CRT

Any recommendations for the Case and PSU? All of that and Mouse, Keyboard, Speakers comes up to about $1871.98 total. I was also thinking of trying out Raid, I have never done so before. I assume I need a Raid controller, any recommendations on any I should look at? Comments and alternative suggestions are most welcome =)

Dude fix your links, I don't want to go to Microsoft.....lol

Not bad....is this for gaming??? if it is I would go with a San Diego core 3700 instead and take that money and put it towards a 7800 video card. No need for raid good choice on the HDD. I would look at what you want for the case, do you want quiet or cooling or both, are you gonna overclock??? what kind of cooling do you want?? I would go with an Antec p180 with one of their PSU's just make sure that it's at least a 480w and make sure it has the 24 pin connector for your MOBO.

Yep it will be used for gaming. I will not be doing any overclocking, dont really trust myself to OC. For the case I am looking to keep it all cool, just fans will do, no liquid cooling. Sound doesnt really matter, you should hear how loud my current PC is >_< Is there much difference between the San Diego core 3700 and the 4000+ I now? The reason I did not consider the 7800 GTX is that its a little bit expensive.

Yeah the 7800 is very expensive, I think you would be better off going with the 3700+ and the 7800 for gaming. I think that combination is much better for gaming then the 4000+ and a 6800 ultra or an 850, then later you could go SLI with another 7800 when the price comes down. I would go with a Zalman for your CPU and a couple 120mm case fans, you won't need to worry too much about cooling if you aren't gonna overclock. I think maybe an Antec p160 would be great if you aren't worried too much about noise, or maybe a coolermaster.

Focus on the video card if you're a gamer. Don't spend too much on the CPU. An AMD 64 3000 to 3500 should do the job.

A 3000 AMD should be able to run at +3500 speed without ANY knowledge in overclocking.

1) you can shave off $100 buy getting a gig of value RAM and take <1% performance hit.

2) also, you can shave off a bunch more cash buy getting the 3200 or 3500 venice core and overclocking it to 4000 speeds.

3) and if you get a reguler non-SLI Nforce4 Ultra, you would then have enough money to get the new 7800GTX.

so, if you do the 3 above mentioned things, you would have a gaming rig that will annihilate the rig you posted.

have a nice day! :)

Dude if you are gonna downgrade downgrading your processor go with a 3200+ venice, the 3500+ is a waste of time and money go with the 3000 or 3200 or step up to a 3700 san diego.

Corsair value saver pc3200 RAM is what you need my friend, $70ish, and it's good stuff. Also, not quite sure that you need a video card that powerful, a 6800Gt will do the trick. An easy way to cut 300 dollars off of your final price :)
