why is it that the 750 class isn't as big/popular as the 600 or the 1L bikes?

i'm still new to bikes but at one point i would like to upgrade from my gs500f and i've just look around. Seems like most people buy 600, 1000 and turbo busa (LOL). Is a 750lb too heavy for its power or just not preferred much? Is pricing so close that its not worth a look really.

I like the 750 class, bottom line is that racing drives supersport tech and etc, and there aren't any serious 750 classes like there are 600/1000

IMO the 750 class is gone because liters are sooo tiny nowadays. 10 years ago there was a noticeable physical size difference between 600s and 1000s; you'd get a 600 sized frame with a 750 motor, versus having to go up to a liter-sized bike.

If you've gotten ~5k-10k miles of experience on your GS you can, IMO, move up to a current liter as long as you're comfortable with the height and size. The current 600s with 130hp at 12k rpm are a PITA to ride

Yeah racing terms dictate displacement. The GSXR 750 is a awesome streetbike though, similar to the power of the Triumph 675 but more comfortable.

Err I thought the last 2 gens of gixers, the 600 and 750 frames were identical?

Pretty sure they are. I wonder their reasoning behind being the only mfg for having that many size sportbikes in the stable. 600, 750, 1000, busa. Nobody else has that many sizes above 600ccs

IMO... I would guess the 750 to feel like it has more grunt down low.

I have owned a 600 and now own a 1000. Granted, the 1000 has stupid amounts of HP up high, but the big difference is that you can lug the motor with bigger displacement. It has a LOT more torque than a 600 which makes it much more usable in the city.

That's actually the main reason why I'm looking into these. I'm mainly a city rider, got the bike to save gas on short trips.

I like my gs500 as I have power down low and don't really need to wind it up like the 600 I rode. I was looking into the new version of the sv650 or a ninja 650r. Couple people told me to look into a 750 since it should cost the same as a 600 pretty much.

The SV or Ninja650r sound like a better fit for you. If you want something better look at bikes like the Triumph Street Triple, Ducati Monster, or BMW F800ST. While a 750 SS may be a marginally better fit for your needs than a 600 SS it still doesn't sound like what you are looking for.

Price and cost to keep plays a big role. Hence why the sv650 was top of my list. I know monsters cost a lot to keep up with. No clue on street triples. I like the 650r mainly because when I think of a bike the first thing that comes to mind is a lime green ninja. Always wanted one and a 09+ 650r seems perfect.

Old monsters cost a lot to keep up.. New ones, not so much. The belt replacements and other things are a lot more reasonable these days. Plus dealer support is a whole lot better than it used to be. I had a Triumph daytona before i got the CBR, cost to keep is not too bad on these either. The problem with the Triumph/Ducati types of brands are getting parts. I used to have to order EVERYTHING for my bike if i needed something, which always seemed to take 2 weeks. The other issue is compared to Jap bikes, there is very little in terms of aftermarket goodies.

If you want a "city bike" for the love of god dont buy a sportbike. There is noting harder on the wrists than stop and go city traffic on one of these.

This might be way off the radar here, but do you do any type of highway riding at all?

i would like to do highway riding but going 70+ on my GS500f, gives me way too much vibrations at the mirror and handbars then what i would like. i'm sure with other bikes its a lot better or so i've been told. So right now no highway riding, with the new bike I would say 75 city/ 25 highway riding.

I dont have any plans to tour the country or take super long roadtrips. I might however end up doing some but nothing over 6 hour riding. And for sure 100% no track days for me.

I would think its the value that the 600 gives.

600 usualy have a much better value then a 750.

The price of the 750 to 1000 is so close most just skip the 750 unless they really really like the bike.

This was not always the case I can remember when 750's had there place.

interceptor 750 , zx7, nighthawk 750, v45 magna, 748.

I think todays landscape has changed. the 600's of today output more power from the 750 and even the 1000 of yesterday. I can remember my hurrican 1000 had 132 hp 96.2 kW @ 9500 rpm. The 600's of today can easly do this with alot less weight.

Also, keep in mind that most insurance companies have a group that is "under 749cc". I think they dictate more than we think...
