Thoughts about negative campaigning from McCain

I think I'm not the only one who has cringed at the videos being posted from rallies held by McCain's camp. These have really made me worry about Obama's safety. Some of these nut cases are not far from taking up arms against someone they falsely believe to be dangerous to America.

Now a lot of people on McCain's side say that he is being attacked by Obama's ads just as much if not more. I really don't think that is true. All the negative ads from Obama's side have attacked McCain's policies, not him personally. The ones where he says that McCain is out-of-touch isn't really a personal attack at the same level of saying that Obama pals around with terrorists (basically implying that he might be one or sympathies with them). There is a big difference between negative ads attacking a candidate's policies or ideology and ads that attack a candidate personally.

They also say that political gatherings bring out crazies on both sides, but I have seen a couple of videos from Obama's speeches where he reprimands his audience as soon as they start booing McCain. He is very clear about it not being acceptable. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3SkmGHlH5g

Then I have seen a lot of speeches where McCain and Palin smile and stand by as their audience is booing and yelling things like "kill him" and "terrorist." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVFWahLTdUo

The argument is always raised that Palin or McCain don't hear these statements when they are up there on the podium. Well, OK, but they definitely hear them afterwards as they are being played on the news and all over the web. It should then be their responsibility to make it clear at future events that such hatred will not be tolerated by them. Start off by saying, "I have come to realize that some very inappropriate things were being yelled out at the last rally we spoke at. I just want to make it clear that this is not acceptable here..." or something along those lines.

Now, back to my concern for Obama's safety. If, God forbid, someone makes an attempt at his life, I personally will blame three people. The person directly responsible for the attack, Governer Palin for nodding along, smiling, and encouraging the hate, and Senator McCain for fueling the hatred by filling the heads of these psychos with dangerous ideas about Obama.

I believe that McCain and Palin need to seriously denounce these type of outbursts and make it clear that they are against such disgusting remarks by confronting this issue at their rallies, directly to their supporters. If they don't, they may seriously regret it and the reputation of a hero will forever be tarnished by the dishonorable and disgusting campaign that he has run.

there's already like 5 of these threads.

there's no way to know what, if anything, McCain/Palin overheard at their rallies, but we do know that the one time McCain was confronted directly with someone saying something retarded like "obama's an a-rab" he immediately denounced it.

This is kind of a repost. I would give a little more faith to the abilities of the secret service.

There are different kinds of negativity. Realistically, human nature predicts that it's going to occur. This campaign does seem to have a little more of a national enquirer flavor to it though.

I agree that this has been brought up before on this board, but I think I am stating things a lot more directly than others have.
