I've noticed that a lot of people from my high school are on facebook, and weirdly enough i keep getting requests from these people to add as friends. Most of them, i either didn't know, or didn't like to begin with, so why do they want to be networked to me now? WTF? twenty one years later and they still think i care?

i just got another one, and i don't even know the dude.

i was thinking that may be the case. weird. makes me want to go out and just pick random people and send a friend request, and then post on their wall telling them how long it's been and we should hook up and hang out.

Don't add if you don't want to.

Or, you could get rid of it. That's what I did. I held onto it for a while, given that I did think the networking thing would be useful.

Then I figured, fuck that, if I want to talk to someone I'm going to make the effort to call them or see them in person.

i figure i'll give them a day then post on their wall:

"dude, remember when we were kids and you walked in on your mom going down on me, that was freakin awesome. how is she anyway?"

i wouldn't use it but the company i used to work for, and still do consulting for on occasion has a bunch of people that i still rely on and use, so it has some use.
Plus, my wife is on a reunion kick with her old friends.

This is why I got sick of facebook. Eventually I deleted most everyone as friends, even those I had been pretty close with, after asking myself 'If I were in the same city as these people tomorrow, would I give them a call?' Only 15 people passed the test. The problem now is all the others probably will think I'm a dick if they ever try to look at my profile, oh well.

i'm far enough away, that unless some of those moochers want to come out here and go skiing or something during the summer, i won't be talking to or worrying about most of them. at least when the next hs reunion mailer goes out, i won't be in the LOST list. not that i'll go, but at least my name won't be on a list for everyone to ponder about.

I don't know their phone numbers anymore. Plus if they didn't meet my criteria, what is the point in keeping in touch. I was sick of seeing updates for people I was never going to talk to in person again. And the ones who were sort of close that I deleted, they know my e-mail. I mostly just kept people from overseas so if I'm in France or whatever I have a tour guide. I think I kept like 5 Americans just because they have specifically told me they want to know where in the world I am if I change countries, so I figure Facebook is an easy way to do that.

Oh yeah then forget that man. 6 billion people on the planet. It's okay if 15 of them think you're a dick.

Ah, the good old "Friend Cleansing". I've done that before and come to think of it, it's about time to do it again. I, like the OP, am sick of getting requests from people that never once talked to me or gave me the time of day. The only people that are friends with me on Facebook are... well, my friends.

My dad is 50 and has a facebook.
That is fine. Now if your Dad was 50 and had a myspace page it would be a bit more strange.
