Big Day for Hunter Wrestlers

For the first time in New York City collegiate wrestling history, two women grapplers faced each other at the starting line-up on February 3, 2004 with Hunter freshman Jennie Rosenblum (125 pounds) squaring off against Maritime State freshman Lylette Ozimek. Although Rosenbaum lost the match, head coach Bob Gaudenzi noted that she was a formidable opponent. :I thought she competed hard. It's going to be a lot of fun watching her develop as a wrestler,: said Gaudenzi.

Rosenbaum is the second female wrestler in Hunter history. She made her unofficial debut on December 13 in an exhibition match against Montclair State.

Also competing at home for the first time was Hunter junior Lamar Brown (174 pounds) who is blind. Brown lost his sight in a car accident in 1995 when he was a high school freshman and turned to wrestling to "release energy." Brown won his match 10-9, his third victory of the year. "Lamar wrestled an excellent match," said Gaudenzi. "I'm always amazed at what he can do because he is constantly at a disadvantage. He has a lot of courage."

Hunter beat Maritime State 27-23. The team's next home meet is February 10 against US Merchant Marine Academy.

Friend of mine at Hunter sent me this... I couldnt imagine wrestle a blind guy... I'd feel to depressed.... well unless he talks about my Mama... :| No one talks 'bout my Mama... /sucks thumb.

:p ;)
