I need to get a security type camera for survalince(spelling?), those annoying banner ads finally got to me, so are they any good? I'm thinking of getting the $80 kit with their Ninja thingy. Anyone know if that's gonna be enough for me to hook it up to a VCR and record and sometime watch it on TV? Thanks

X10 made my Radeon 8500 DV remote control program, and they bog me with all these ads, so im indifferent. But thats what they are designed for, and other naughty purposes.

It's for my parents store, they should have gotten a camera a long time ago, but they still haven't. Today they had a kid(like 12 or 13) with either a fake or real gun try to rob them. The kid run off, and no one was hurt. Anyhow, I think it's a little better to have one then not. If the X10 ones aren't good, any recommendations on some other security cameras that aren't over $125?

If you're using this for real security I would highly suggest you don't skimp out and you spend some money on GOOD quality stuff, made for security.. not those cheapo cams from x10.

That's true. x10 won't come even close to a low-end real security camera for this sort of thing. You need something totally reliable for starters !

I have a x10 low-light BW camera that I got using a GC and a hot deal for about 15 bucks a year ago. Its a wired one, with a sixty foot cord. Its surprisingly good. The RCA AV hookup takes up more space than usual and prevents me from using my DVD input on my reciever, so I only use it at parties, where it is mounted above my front door hidden inside a hollowed out smoke detector. Its mostly a novelty but I use it so I can tell who is at the door (randoms, friends, cops, etc) without opening it. (no peephole). It also has sound. Its a bit grainy in low light, but the quality is good. I would say it would easily work for a budget security camera.

You are going to have to go with a "real" security camera system. And it won't be cheap ($2000+).

explain why. Do you own one? Do you find it unnaceptable? As I posted up there, I DO have one and I think it would be FINE for a budget security system.

We have security cameras installed in our family store. You do not want to go cheap on a security system. We use it for court evidence and the quality has to be good. Plus, indoor lighting is very tricky and can cause poor quality capture.

$2000:Q, giving me a heart attack, any how I only need one camera and 2 at the max. It's only for a small "waiting" area. I have seen the X10 camera's in action and they weren't too bad, just wondering if there is anything else better. I remember seeing a camera kit made my Jwin or something and it was either B&W or color, but it was just awesome quality even with light lighting. I just don't know where to find it.

i saw one small shop have two.. looked like the wireless ones.. they seemed decent actually. But since it's wireless, occationally you lose signal or something.. but otherwise.. looked ok.

i've seen camera's sell for $150ish from MCM electronics i think? I get their little catalog sometimes.. i have no idea if the camera are any good tho

Oh. I thought you were going to wire up an entire store. We have a decent sized store so we installed 4 cameras. You could probably get a cheaper system (B&W) if the camera is to serve more as a deterrent.
