Those with relatively new cars, how long did it take for some jackass to ding it with their door?

NFS4

No Lifer
Just a little under 2 months -- now have a ding on the rear passenger side door about 8" above the door guard.

I always make it a point to park AWAY from other cars whenever I go somewhere unless there is just no away around it.

Oh well, sh!t happens I guess 🙁 😛

4 months so far, nothing yet. I always park by myself, but it never fails when I come back, there's a POS car sitting right next to mine.

Where is the option for within 3 hours of driving it off the lot?

[edit] fortunately the side rear-view mirror caught the door and just got a smear of his paint on it and it buffed out with no visible damage to my car. But you should have seen the look on that poor guys face as the wind caught his door and blew it out of his grasp into my car with me standing right there. . .And then when he looked up and saw the sticker still on the window! Priceless! 🙂

This is why I like my junk car sometimes. Whenever I notice a new ding I just think "Oh good, not both sides match!"

On the other hand, I don't like that jangling noise it started making.

2 months...some jackass bumped into the rear of my car and left 2 very small ding marks from his license plate screws. almost impossible to see...except for me.

About 3 months on my new Silverado, but less than a week on my wifes like-new DeVille.
As a matter of fact, it got blasted at least twice in that week!

I could swear someone hit my car with a golfball or something because I've got a ding that looks as big as a golfball...

I have a 2004 Mazda6i hatchback and one day I came out of Walmart and saw a guy actually push a f'in cart right into my car. I said WTF did you do that for and he said sorry.......... I asked him if he'd like a cart through the front windshield of his car and he smirked, no! **LOL** I said next time be more careful and not so lazy to return the carts where they belong in the CART RETURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had just bought the car and I baby that thing like crazy!

I park next to new cars that park in isolated areas so I can kick open my car door next to them. j/k

Only very minor scratches thanks to me, on a very dark color car no less.

Days for the wife's car. I park mine as far away from other cars as I can. If I have to go to a crowded lot I take the wife's car.

Yeah, my car is black. You can see the dent if you look at it at an angle. The scratch itself is down to the "white." I don't whether I should just leave it or try to put some touch up paint on it.

About 1 week into having my new car, it was dinged. No dent, but the paint was scratched off. I should have known better too; I parked next to someone who backed into the stall. 😱 Never again. Anyone who blatantly breaks societies rules (such as how to park) is a risk of breaking other rules (such as leaving contact information and paying for the damage).

Within two months I had noticed a door ding... and I always park well away from other cars... (not just because I'm afraid of door dings, but working in an office building doesn't let me walk much... so I park far away to gain the extra 75 steps I take... 😛)

A year now, nothing yet. Living far away from other Viets has its advantage after all 🙂. Some of them like to key new cars that belong to other Viets, especially a prestigious brand like Lexus or BMW. It's like why should you have a nice car when they're driving beat-up and riced civics. But then I'm just driving a Subaru Forrester 🙂, not the best looker out there.

Society has a rule about which way to park in a parking spot? And backing in presents more danger to your car?

The sad thing is I think I've had this discussion with you before.

Yeah, what's wrong with backing in? In fact, I prefer to back in most of the time so that I can just pull right out.

It shouldn't make any difference whatsoever which way your car is facing. You still have the same amount of space to get in/out and the door angle is still going to be the same.
