Those with Nforce2 2.42 drivers read this! They might be bad!

I was just about to install them too!

So, browsing around, noticed that somebody said that the 2.41 and 2.42 nForce 2 drivers were removed from the NVIDIA site. And yes, they were. In their place are the 2.03 drivers and a little note:
Updated May 23, 2003: If you have previously downloaded the 2.41 or 2.42 nForce kits and have experienced any problems please follow these instructions on how to re-install previous drivers.

So maybe more was wrong than just the IDE driver. Just a word of warning, folks.

I'm somewhat irked actually :\ being a 56k sucks for a 25 meg download and I spent an hour getting half of it and then I come back and it cancelled

I wonder what was wrong - perhaps an error that isn't immediately noticable? Hopefully we'll get 2.43 soon because tehre has to be big changes to go from .03 to .41

They screwed with my system, not sure if it's the scsi setup or what but after I setup the 2.41's I got an NTDLR Missing error when starting windows. Fixed that by turning off BIOS and V-Ram cache ability, but when I tried to startup again I got a Winodws32/NVidia-yada-yada-yada/yada-yada/missing error as if a chipset driver were missing. My Lite-On didn't even show-up in windows , hopefully not a sign of thing's to come in the future.

The 2.41's are working fine on my A7N266-VM also (nice EAX audio enhancements, UT2003 Demo sounds waaay better). At work, the 2.41's are working fine on my A7N8X-Deluxe rev. 2 as well... I gave it a pretty heavy workout today, too, including CD burning. Still, if peoples' systems are getting messed up, then nVidia has evidently got a few bugs to kill yet.

edit: both of these are running Win2000 SP3.

Geez, I looked for the WinXP drivers for the nForce, and it just tells me:

The object you requested was not available. Either it no longer exists on our database, or you do not have the proper permissions to view it.

So no drivers at all now?

Ok, I see it - the link points to v2.42; manually entering 2.03 as the version number in the URL does it.
And when the file is called "Recovery Instructions" and is 667KB, that seems to indicate trouble.
Hopefully nVidia will get the heck moving on these drivers. Of course, it would be nice if they'd test them a little bit before releasing them. Seems that there was not quite enough of that with the 2.4x drivers.

Don't blame nvidia for crappy 56k speeds, especially when it may have prevented headaches for you using bad drivers. :)
