Those with kids in school...

Gifts for the teachers?

  • Yep, they're awesome.

  • Nope, they already make too much.

  • For putting up with my troll, there isn't enough $$.

  • A box of hair, my kid, a rock. He's got no chance anyway.

pre-school... yes we opted to do it since she is their first teacher (3 years old) and they've quite enjoyed their time. 2 teachers @ $25 each kid. Not too terrible. I don't think I'd do it beyond kindergarten. They make enough money around here (sore subject with cops & teachers).

The boy has 3 teachers, 5th grade. The wife's giving them $25 each. That's 2+ trips to the sushi bar for me.:(

i voted no, but its not because i think the teachers make enough already.

i have my kids make cards to give to their teachers. imo it's more personal. besides, at the school they go to the homeroom moms arrange for gifts to the teacher and parents donate to the gift fund if they can. so the teacher will get a gift from 'everyone' either way.

Once they got to Middle School we quit giving gifts to the teachers. Unless there was particular teacher that my girls liked.

Nope, having my son as a student is gift enough. :)
My thoughts exactly.

My kid > any 2 youts.
Nope. Never did with our kids.
Why did I know this already?:p

kidding, my parents never did either. They were already on a 1st name basis after my older siblings. Not a good relationship, imo.
nope. why should i get them something for doing their job?
Tis the season, love, hope, charity, wal-mart........nvm.;)

We always get gifts for my two kids teachers, 1st-2nd grade. I wasn't sure about this year since one of the teachers the wife doesn't like. However I came home yesterday and presents for both of them where on the table.

Parents give gifts to teachers for Xmas?? How is the gift physically given to them? Is this an American thing?
Teachers never got Xmas gifts when I went to school (in Canada).

The kid takes it to school, in our case.

We did for pre-school and the primary grades (K to 5). Once they moved to middle school it was no longer appropriate.

No kids... but I remember during grade school (specifically, grade 8 and below) when all the kids were with the same teacher all day, the parents did. We use to have afternoons close to Christmas when the teacher would open everything one at a time infront of the kids. I thought it was fun...

In my kids' schools, the teachers expected rather nice gifts (and we were told what to get). If we didn't, our kids suffered. Stupid upscale suburbia

Yep. Teachers are grossly underpaid for the most part and they are one of the biggest influences on your kids' lives. It's the least I can do.
