I usually shut off my PC and cable connection each night. Will there be a problem with the cable modem burning up when it's being run 24/7?

And, has anyone used Phonom's bundle (DSL and phone line) for $65/month.

Heh, no, they are designed to be on all the time. They'll only "burn up" if you're stupid and don't have adequate cooling (ie don't stuff it in a cupboard with no airflow at all)

I leave my 3 PC's at home on 24/7, and I run Seventeen or Bust for Team Anandtech on them all so that they're not sitting idle.

You need a router, and keep the router and cable modem on. Shutting your PC off will not effect the connection, but you must keep your cable modem and router on 24/7.

yea i figure that, but i was reading something and the user complained about his cable modem feeling very hot. one cant expect it to be cool all the time, but i jsut wanted to make sure.

SIGH ... now I gotta figure out which is better, Vonage or Phonom.

It's a trade off, Vonage is the name that will last, but there a better deals out there, yet those companies may not be around in a year or two. I like the packet8 deal but Vonage is the 'Coca-Cola' of Internet phone service.

very true. packet8 is cheaper, but no 911 capabilities.

There are now 911 capabilities in most areas, but you have to pay extra. All you need to do is program the 911 local number into your phone....

BTW I use packet 8 with no problems at all. I have no regular voice service in my home and no cell Packet 8 works THAT WELL for me.
