Those two damn horizontal lines.

Just bought a new Mitsubishi RDF17is. I have read about the two horizontal lines, but I thought they were supposed to be thin and black. My monitor has the two lines, but it looks like they are mis-scanned from about an inch away horizontally and they are not so thin. It is just above the annoyance threshold and shows up best in lighter colors.
Could it be possible that this monitor has the problem worse than normal, or am I just noticing this too much? I like the monitor otherwise.

Thanks.

Mitsubishi, thats a Diamondtron right? My VX720 has the lines as well, you'll get used to it. I know I used to notice the lines a lot on white screens like the one I'm looking at now, but now I only notice it when I want to.

if it means anything to ya my viewsonic pf790 has them too... ya get used to them and i dont notice them unless i specificly look for em...

I've got those line, all trinitrons do, and I've gotten used to them and only can see them on white screens. They should however be barely noticable and very thin so I don't know if yours are right or not, can't imagine what would make em thicker though😕!

Hm.. I'm no sure what you guys are talking about... I don't see any black lines on my old HP M70 monitor.. anyone got a pic/drawing of what you're talking about?

Josh

Put a white background on your desktop, you should see two thin, horizontal lines. One is about 1/4 down from the top of the monitor, the other is 1/4 up from the bottom. You will only see this if your monitor is a trinitron.

If you think this is annoying. Wait till you buy a LCD screen and it has stuck or dead pixels.

I compared to my Dell Trinitron at work and the Diamondtron lines are definitely more noticable. The Dell monitor has them, but I didn`t notice them until I looked.
Darn. This is my last Diamondtron.

On my Samsung 900NF it almost looks like a piece of hair stretched across the screen. The lines are very thin and I usually don't notice them. When I do it doesn't bother me at all though. My viewsonice had them on too.

I had a Sony CRT and I would rather look for my one bright pixel all day long than look at those two dark lines across my whole screen for an hour...

Those lines are the cables that hold the aperature gill in place. The invar shadow mask screens don't have them. It is probably the only reason why I still won't buy a monitor based on that technology.

I would much rather have the horizontal lines than the sucky shadow mask i have now

Keep in mind that there are a lot of good shadow mask monitors out there.
